Since the 2019 publication of the Implementation of Autonomous Systems in Mining guideline, there have been significant advancements in the different technological solutions that are available, as well as years of experience and applicable knowledge gained across mine sites globally. The updated version of the guideline will be expanded to include learnings from deployments of the past few years and to ensure considerations are addressed to support the implementation of various autonomous solutions in both the surface or underground environment. During upcoming virtual workshops, participants will work together to help finish content development for the nearly completed guideline. Specifically, more work is needed to generate content for sections of the guideline related to operational readiness and deployment. The functional safety lifecycle is a process for managing functional safety over the life of a product. The figure describes the relationship between the OPS (original product supplier) and the application lifestyles. The dotted arrows show where aspects fit within the overall lifecycle example while the solid arrows show some key communications between the two lifecycles. 'Indigenous people are often not heard.' Thank you Madeline R. Young, Edson krenak, Galina Angarova, Lynn Gitu and Ravi Rebbapragada for sharing your insights during the panel-discussion on #Indigenous perspectives on Responsible Mining. Two main things that I am taking away: 1️⃣ Mining never comes alone! Mining operations bring along infrastructure, roads, trucks, external labour, ports etc. Indigenous communities often find themselves at the centre of these developments. Considerations must extend beyond just the mine site. 2️⃣ Self-determination is key, making Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) crucial.
