I’ve just been at a Strength and Conditioning Workshop during my “Off Time” in London 🏃🏼♂️💨 And what can I say, firstly this picture makes me officially faster than any CTV on Vineyard 1. No fault to their own… 🐳 “Off Time” is one of the greatest benefits we have working offshore, we get to have half of the year off essentially and from that we can plan to do what we choose. (I’ll not include the talk on travel days here or people with a different shift pattern) That could be from doing nothing to exploring the world. But finding the thing that makes you tick is the difference coming back on rotation feeling ENERGETIC ⚡️or feeling flat or even fat 😅 I’m currently enrolled in a Strength and Conditioning Dipolma course that I’ve been completing over this past 4 years. It’s a Hyrid learning that poses great benefit to me as an offshore worker👷♂️ I get to explore an area that I’m extremely interested in and this is what opened the door for me to coach people online from anywhere in the world 🌎 But I bet your reading this wondering how slow are the CTV over in Vineyard…. 🇺🇸 Seriously though, use your off time to improve on yourself and the people around you. Switching completely off isn’t ideal for the mind as it can take a few days to get going again. A strong focus on Health and Safety has always been a top priority of the Nordex Group, and this week marks 6 months since we launched the #SafetyTogether campaign. As we further improve our safety culture, it is important for all of us to remain mindful of best practices and behaviors when it comes to keeping ourselves and others safe in the workplace. For that reason, our #TeamNordex HSE specialists identified and analyzed the main risks and previous incidents across all our activities and used this to develop 10 Life Saving Rules. These 10 Life Saving Rules underline our commitment to safety and, more importantly, act as a safeguard for our employees and subcontractors moving forward. Each rule addresses a specific topic as part of a defined minimum acceptable HSE standard which must not be broken. This is the key message that the 10 Life Saving Rules aim to firmly reinforce within our Nordex Group safety culture and all our mindsets. As the number of ships operating on zero or near-zero emission fuels grows, there is a need for more maritime personnel and seafarers to be trained and equipped to operate these ships safely and efficiently. To address the current competency gap, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) will establish an industry-supported facility for training the global maritime workforce in handling and operating vessels using clean marine fuels. With hundreds of crew changes conducted daily here, Singapore's Maritime Energy Training Facility (METF) is well-placed to support the training of international seafarers. Ship owners and operators can expect time and training cost savings by tapping into METF’s training facilities. 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗜𝗠𝗖𝗔 – 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the IMCA Regional Meeting, where we discussed some of the key issues affecting our industry: • 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: We reviewed uplink and downlink communication requirements, focusing on satellite technology that enables reliable and efficient long-distance communication in offshore operations. • 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴: One of the key discussions centred around the well-being of seafarers, with challenges such as wages, respect, shore leave, and mental well-being being highlighted as critical issues affecting their happiness. • 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀: The session also provided insights into the ongoing offshore CAPEX cycle, especially strong in regions like Europe, the Middle East, and Brazil, which are expected to see significant investments in the coming years. • 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀: A key takeaway was the industry's focus on improving safety observation frequency rates (SOFR) and reducing total recordable injury rates (TRIR), with a clear emphasis on boosting safety performance across offshore projects. Major Accidents are the kind of accidents you absolutely don't want to happen. But this is only achieved by preventing the minor accidents from happening. 📝 Major Accidents are often a result of little oversights, tiny mistakes and minor accidents. It is the combination of these tiny pieces that leads to a major accident. 𝐑𝐄𝐗 - 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 REX or Return on Experience refers to the investigation and documentation of previous accidents in order to ensure that lessons are taken from it, including best practices to avoid that kind of accident. What can you learn from this? ✅ Safety is a continuous process. ✅ You can always learn from the accidents or mistakes that others have made. It doesn't have to be your experience. ✅ Safety has an history. Learn it. There's a quote by Anne Frank that says "𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒅𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒃𝒆 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒏𝒆, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒂𝒕 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒌𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝒊𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏.” ✅ All accidents can be avoided. Do have a great and safe week.
