Personally, I would prefer local, responsible development of the Duluth Complex before sourcing minerals from around the world and under the sea. Fascinating to learn about the exploration investment and scale of the known undersea resources. As we shift from a fossil fuel intensive energy landscape to a mineral intensive clean energy future - honest discussions around transparency in the supply chain and new mineral demand must continue. There are hard realities which can’t be ignored. https://lnkd.in/g8K-7QeJ

Interesting discussion this morning by the panel comprised of Sara Mainville, Niilo Edwards, Dave Forestell, and Julian Owens on ‘Navigating to make big projects happen: Critical minerals in Canada’. The session focused on the intricacies of regulation, funding, permitting, and First Nations partnerships within the realm of critical mineral exploration and development. Niilo left us with an impactful thought, that equity partnerships with First Nations don’t come added costs, they come with added value. #pdac2024 #economicreconciliation #criticalminerals

This is a great article showcasing an approach to lower carbon emission minerals processing where low emission grid power is available.
Mines that are looking to decarbonize their operations often focus on the fuel used in their vehicle fleets, but eliminating the use of fossil fuels in mineral processing plants can also help in achieving companies’ net-zero emissions targets.
