Few facts about early stage of McKinsey, which many of my consulting friends will be happy to learn about: 🎯 It was founded in Chicago in 1926 by James O. McKinsey (Mac) with a small staff in one office. 🎯 He was educated as a teacher and a lawyer and was teaching accounting in early career. 🎯 But academia did not suit him and he started his consulting firm. 🎯 Marvin Bower was the first among few who joined as partner, and went on to become longest serving Managing Partner. 🎯 Mac attracted a number of partners, who could not only work on the engagements he found, but also develop clients of their own. 🎯 In 1934, they had most prestigious engagement - Marshall Field’s, and Mac became the CEO of that company. 🎯 McKinsey was merged with Scovill, Wellington & Company. 🎯 Mac passed away unexpectedly in November 1937. 🎯Bower demerged McKinsey from Scovill, Wellington & Company, and established McKinsey as a professional consulting firm. #mckinsey #consulting #coaching #leading #knowledge #learning

Call it “the CFO shuffle.” Top finance leaders are shifting from one company or position to another—or opting for retirement—at a faster rate. Take a read of this article from our friend, Anthony N. of Global Finance Magazine: https://lnkd.in/eyRdPi3p The data and insights we are capturing from The CFO Alliance community point to a number of factors behind this, including: * Today's finance leaders have broader and more visibile leadership roles and responsibilities than ever before -- With these responsibiliites come greater opportunities to make career and job moves as well as become a target when things don't go as planned. * Today's CFOs are truly the 'Chief Reality Officers.' They know better than anyone if strategy and ability to execute are in alignment or not -- and if not, then when to raise the flag. Thoughts? #cfos #financeleaders #peertopeer

🔍 The Rajat Gupta insider trading scandal is a powerful reminder that even the most trusted leaders can fall prey to greed. Rajat Gupta's career is a remarkable story of breaking barriers and achieving global success. He joined McKinsey & Company in 1973 and rose to become the firm's first non-American Managing Director, leading it through an era of significant global expansion. Under his leadership, McKinsey doubled its consultant base and expanded into 23 new countries. He co-founded the Indian School of Business and was a key figure in establishing the private equity firm New Silk Route. Gupta's influence extended to numerous corporate boards, including Goldman Sachs and Procter & Gamble, making him a trailblazer for Indian professionals worldwide. Learn about the consequences faced by Gupta, Raj Rajaratnam, and Anil Kumar in this shocking tale of betrayal and ethics. The case shows the world Integrity in business isn't just important—it's essential. #Finance #BusinessEthics #InsiderTrading #CorporateGovernance

📘 The Untold Story of McKinsey’s Bold Gamble In 1926, James O. McKinsey, a mild-mannered professor of accounting, took a risk that would forever change the world of business consulting. At a time when "consultants" were seen as mere accountants-for-hire, McKinsey had a revolutionary idea: What if businesses had access to strategic advisors who didn’t just count the past but shaped the future? With this vision, he left his secure academic career to start his own firm — McKinsey & Company. But here’s the twist: instead of hiring accountants, he recruited lawyers, engineers, and executives with real-world experience. His approach was groundbreaking. Instead of offering financial audits, McKinsey’s team provided "management audits" — a service where they assessed a company’s leadership, processes, and strategy. This concept was unheard of at the time. But bold moves come with risks. In 1935, James McKinsey himself faced a difficult choice when he left his own firm to become CEO of Marshall Field & Company, a major U.S. retailer. Tragically, he passed away just two years later at the age of 48. While McKinsey’s time at the helm was short, his vision lived on. Marvin Bower, one of his early hires, took the reins and transformed McKinsey into the global consulting powerhouse we know today. Visionary ideas often start small, require bold risks, and sometimes live beyond the founder who sparked them. #VisionaryLeaders #McKinseyStory #Entrepreneurship #BusinessStrategy #ConsultingLife #Innovation #Leadership #ManagementConsulting #InspiringHistory #BoldMoves
