Key takeaways include #Boardcraft - The art of board work; it's not science it's about people. Recognising that the Board is a group of people who are gathering together and as such they will bring their expertise, experiences, their challenges and biases, as humans they may also bring the things which have occurred that day in the run up to that meeting. The word “Governance” has a rich history tracing back to its Greek origins of steering guiding and piloting (to some goal / purpose). Therefore, the Job of the board is to make big and strategic decisions to guide and steer the organisation towards it's strategy, it’s Performance. This is a balance, and if the majority of focus is on conformance then the Board misses the opportunity to steer towards performance.
