New Podcasters: don't give up! 💪 Podcasters who check their download stats over and over again end up giving up. Focus on using your podcast for building strategic relationships and delivering value. 🤝 Even if little audience materializes, the value will come. 🏅 I recommend new podcasters don't check their stats. At all. More podcasters quit because of heightened expectations than any other reason.

Founder of Rephonic. Get booked on podcasts and grow your business with data-driven podcast guest appearances.
Listening to Andrew Huberman on Lex Fridman. Both of these guys are hugely popular podcasters - 10M+ monthly listeners, very engaged audiences, and millions of followers. A couple of thoughts: 1. If you're a podcast host, guesting on other shows is a great way to attract new listeners and grow your own audience. 2. When pitching yourself as a guest, aim for shows with a similar popularity level. Both sides need to gain from the appearance.

Podcast Producer & Editor | I help leaders and businesses create compelling, professional podcasts that build their brand and captivate listeners.
Before you conduct a survey, ask yourself, ‘What will I do with the results?’ I see people obsess over their podcast stats, and you should, but say your subscriber-to-download ratio is 35%? What are you going to do? The time you spend doing the math would be better spent finding out what your audience wants so you can give it to them. Knowing your audience will boost your downloads. Avoid comparisons. I’ve seen people devastated by comparing their show to others. If you’re unsure whether your show measures up, ask your audience—they are the only ones who can truly answer that question. 70% of podcasts are discovered via word of mouth (according to Jacobs media) When you deliver great content consistently, listeners are more likely to follow and subscribe.

As a consumer of #podcasts and also a (former) marketer who sees their value, the talented Tom Webster just published his "little book" on the medium. "The Audience is Listening" draws on his research-based expertise in podcasting - certain to become a best-of for anyone hosting a podcast, growing a podcast, or for those wanting to learn just how the audience is listening. #Communications #PR #podcasting #audiences
Today, I am incredibly proud to announce the availability of The Audience Is Listening, my one-and-only book about the art and science of crafting a better podcast. This is everything I have learned from working on some of the biggest shows in audio for the last 30 years about creating an entertaining, audience-focused show, and I truly hope it inspires podcasters to double down on the only thing that matters - the listener. Picture this: you created an incredible podcast episode for your listeners but after hitting publish hear crickets. "What just happened?" you ask yourself. It may have been a low-value show title. Many content folks and hosts falsely believe a subscriber will listen to every show, but nope. Getting a listener to subscribe is the 1st step, BUT earning every listen is a never ending effort. The fix: If you were in a coffee shop with your guest, what would have triggered a patron at another table to eavesdrop? What sentence would convert them from a passive patron, to an active listener of your conversation? That's your headline. What tricks have you tried to write better headlines?

New from Buzzsprout! Fanmail 💌 Now, listeners don’t have to leave their podcast app to engage! They can just text you and respond to your episodes. No more begging them to join your FB group and then 🦗🦗🦗 Your listeners might have the best of intentions, but stats show they’re listening on the go, and that means they probably get distracted (and forget to click your external links). Fanmail makes building a community around your pod SO much easier for listeners. Try asking an engaging question and encourage your listeners to use the fan mail functionality! 7moSo true! I used to check my stats often, if not daily then at least several times a week. After almost 10 years, I maybe check once or twice a month. Way more productive ways to use my time than hitting refresh on the stats page!
