For the newer electrical engineers to the profession here is a piece of history around overhead line installation. I started on 11kV overhead line design and jumped to 132kV through a jungle. Site selection through the jungle was the most interesting and the last span landed in the powerstation switchyard requiring a structure where all forces were in uplift. It confused the civil designers at the time and my information was challenged. I got to demonstrate from first principles how I got to work out the forces. First principles included showing conductor laying flat expending due to thermal change and then due to tension being applied. It gave me the confidence to understand where formulae in books came from. Happily modern installation of such conductors have really improved compared to this video (especially in WHS terms).
