What being a foster parent taught me in 2024... -It’s not about being perfect. -It’s not about having all the answers. -It’s not about being a superhero. ... It’s NOT about any of those things. ↓ Being a foster parent challenges you in ways you never imagined.... It teaches you patience you didn’t know you had. It shows you the true meaning of love and resilience. And it reminds you that impact is greater than perfection. Being a foster parent isn’t about having it all together --- it’s about showing up. For the kids who need you. For the moments that matter. It’s about giving them a safe space, a smile, and a sense of hope. More people should consider stepping into this journey. It is essential that children, their families and foster carers are effectively communicated with when they use children’s social services. To support this, we worked with Tusla - Child and Family Agency to develop a toolkit on the ‘Fundamentals of good communication: How to have effective everyday conversations’. The toolkit will support Tusla - Child and Family Agency staff communicate effectively with people using children’s social services. It aims to help ensure that children, families and foster carers understand what is happening on a day-to-day basis, feel involved in decisions that affect their lives, and have a sense of control regarding their care and support.
