Following a devastating cyber attack on the NHS last month, the government is set to introduce tough new measures to protect critical infrastructure from Russian and Chinese hackers. The King's Speech is expected to outline plans to strengthen regulations for third-party contractors, who were exposed as a weak link in the recent attack. With patient care severely impacted, including cancer treatments, the government is determined to bolster defences and prevent future disruptions. #cybersecurity #NHS #nationalsecurity #cyberattack #government

London NHS hospitals, including Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College Hospital, have reverted to using paper records following a major cyber-attack by the Russian group Qilin. This ransomware attack targeted Synnovis, disrupting IT systems responsible for processing patient tests, leading to postponed non-emergency operations and manual recording of test results. The impact is extensive, affecting primary care services and other NHS trusts in southeast London, with recovery expected to take weeks or even months. This disruption underscores the vulnerability of healthcare systems to cyber-attacks and the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures. The reliance on manual processes not only slows down medical services but also heightens the risk of errors, potentially compromising patient safety. This incident highlights the urgent need for healthcare providers to strengthen their cyber defenses to ensure continuity of care and protect sensitive patient information. #NHS #CyberSecurity #Healthcare #IT #DataProtection #PatientSafety #Ransomware #CyberAttack #LondonNHS #HealthTech #SecGenX https://lnkd.in/gtn4uzkg

We continually stress the importance of robust cybersecurity in all sectors with our clients, not just healthcare. It's not just about data protection - it's about continuity, peace of mind, and the trust placed in each business. Threats such as ransomware and DDoS attacks can halt operations and cut off access to crucial information. In essence, our task is to make sure that these disruptions remain a 'what if' and never become a 'what now'. #Ransomware #CyberSecurityThreats
More than 800 planned operations had to be rearranged after a massive cyber attack hit London hospitals. The incident, which affected six NHS trusts in south-east London, was due to a ransomware attack on pathology services provider Synnovis and has seen caused a significant reduction in the number of tests which can be processed. BBC News has some more detail about the attack. #cyberattack #cybersecurity #healthtech

A cyber attack has affected major hospitals in London, leading to operations being cancelled and emergency patients being diverted elsewhere. Remember: Cyber criminals might not always attack their main target, as shown in this latest cyber threat. The major hospitals affected have had to cancel operations due to the company that provides pathology services being the victim of a cyber attack. Every business needs to think of cyber security, as even the smallest attack can affect the supply chain. Read more below: #becomecybersafe #cybersafe #cyberthreats #cyberattack

Beware the smaller cyberdisasters that are already happening, in preparation for a big one or a series of big ones. Hospitals have been hacked in both the U.S. and Canada, and appear to be testing responses and redundancies. The potential for loss of life is massive, and will make the fatality county from 9/11 pale in comparison. In the U.S., water treatment plants have been hacked in an attempt to change the chemical mixtures that result in clean drinking water. Power grids are being targeted as well. I think you can imagine quite realistically how quickly a number of catastrophes can suddenly be upon us. Prevention, is better than cure.

Cybersecurity experts are warning that hospitals around the country are at risk for attacks like the one that is crippling operations at a premier Midwestern children’s hospital, and that the U.S. government is doing too little prevent such breaches. Hospitals in recent years have shifted their use of online technology to support everything from telehealth to medical devices to patient records. Today, they are a favorite target for internet thieves who hold systems’ data and networks hostage for hefty ransoms, said John Riggi, the American Hospital Association’s cybersecurity adviser. “Unfortunately, the unintended consequence of the use of all this network and internet connected technology is it expanded our digital attack surface,” Riggi said. “So, many more opportunities for bad guys to penetrate our networks.” The assailants often operate from American adversaries such as Russia, North Korea and Iran, where they enjoy big payouts from their victims and face little prospect of ever being punished. Have good cybersecurity habits. Criminals often try to exploit the weakest link, the employee. If you find a great TB thumb drive take it to the IT folks, don’t plug it in to look, if someone needs you to clink a link, verify. Pay attention to your cybersecurity experts. They are doing a great job and need your help as part of the broader security program. #criticalinfrastructure #cybersecurity #situationalawareness #dontbescammed

NHS hospitals and some GP surgeries in London have declared a critical incident, following a cyber attack on a third party service provider. Forcing the cancelation of operations. Synnovis a provider of pathology services that is in partnership between SYNLAB UK & Ireland, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, and King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust appears to have been hit with a ransomware. SYNLAB Italia is reported to have suffered a cyber attack by Blackbasta in April 2024 (Blackbasta operates a RaaS). Health is CNI and it is well demonstrated that health CNI when targeted by a cyber attack it can have an effect on national security (U.S congressional committee - United Health May 2024). The effects of supply chain cyber attacks are well documented. In this case it appears to be having a serious effect on health services in and around London. Thaddeus Dziekanowski one has to ask the question. When will the UK start to adopt 'Security First' principles for CNI?
