Enough is enough. 😡 Origin stories are captivating, whether they are in business, comics, or creative projects. 👿 How did this get started? 🔥 Who was the first person to do that? 🤯 Why did this not exist before? We love it when Karl Seelbach tells the origin story of Skribe and what caused him to say, "I need a better way." Karl realized the legal world needed a faster, more reliable way to handle depositions—that's when Skribe was born. What's your "enough is enough" moment? Or what would it take for you to say, 'I'm done!' #legaltech #ai #courtreporting #non-stenographic
Law firm founder (D&S) #LegalTech founder (Skribe.ai) | On a mission to make justice more innovative, affordable and efficient for everyone, everywhere.
Tired of paying both a stenographer AND a videographer just to hit 'record' on a Zoom depo? I’ve been there. In today’s world of smartphones, Zoom, and AI, why are we still stuck shelling out thousands to agencies for services that should be simple and efficient? One time, I was set to depose an expert witness on Zoom in a multi-million-dollar case. The deposition had been scheduled with video, but when I asked the stenographer—a sweet older lady—to press record, she told me: "Sorry, I’m not authorized to do that, I am just the court reporter." I was floored. My witness was ready, deadlines were looming, and I was given two options: either reschedule or wait for a videographer who might not even show up for another hour or more. Frustrated and running out of time, I took matters into my own hands. I opened my own Zoom room, sent everyone a new link, and hit the record button myself. In that moment, it became crystal clear—there had to be a better way. Why were we relying on such outdated, cumbersome systems? That night, I decided to build it. And that's how Skribe was born. Now, I’m sharing everything I’ve learned about modernizing depositions with AI in an upcoming webinar with Charles Peckham, hosted by Justia. We’ll show you how to cut down on your deposition costs, boost your case effectiveness, and enhance client satisfaction—all while saving time. We will also explore ways to analyze your depositions leveraging Generative AI. 🗓️ Date: Friday, September 13, 2024 🕐 Time: 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT 🔗 Register for Free: https://buff.ly/4efvRWX Trust me—you don’t want to miss this. ✨ Bonus: Approved for CLE credit! #LegalTech #CLE #Attorneys #Litigation #Steno #NonSteno #Depositions #GenerativeAI #AIDepositions #Skribe #Paralegals

There are 3 levels of product work: 1) Impact 2) Execution 3) Optics Each is important. AND Everyone has a default level they enjoy. One mistake I made pretty much throughout my career was to downplay the role of Optics and to tell myself the story that my Impact & Execution will speak for itself. So for others who are like me, here’s a 3 minute video on How to Get Better at Managing Optics: https://lnkd.in/gra9aDrd

Two things that I suck at and I really wish everyone learns early in their career is the value of networking and the value of optics. It isn’t about peacocking, it is about visibility of your work. For yourself and for your team, truly think about the platforms that are available to you to make your work visible. Some of my gremlins manifested as * They are all so busy, I shouldn’t waste their precious time * I was hired so they do not have to think about all this so I shouldn’t bring it up * This is too small to bother anyone with * If there isn’t a decision to be made, why waste their time with random updates There is a fine line between too much and too little. Do yourself and your team a favour and find that line.

I started in optics when I was about 8 years old back in 1983. Obviously that wasn’t paid employment, more an interest in how things worked. Before I tell you this story I have to make some confessions, I wasn’t the best behaved little boy. I grew up on a council estate and things to keep me and my friends occupied were limited back in those days. We explored the area, sometimes miles from our homes, we climbed trees! (now I can hear the younger generation saying “you did what!” “Why.. why would you want to climb a tree!?” you’ll have to trust me, I’m not going to insist that anyone goes and tries to do that but its way more fun than any x-box game and really builds self confidence even when you are hanging on for dear life 30 feet up in the canopy, it was just different back then) Anyway, I digressed, we had a reservoir near our house and a field with a large canyon running through we liked to call death valley, in truth it was a drain away for the reservoir but its better when its death canyon! We used to go into the canyon and mess around with anything we could find, I can’t remember where I got it but I do recall having a magnifying glass and on sunny days I would sit and try to focus the sunlight into one concentrated beam and see if I could set fire to some grass or bits of paper lying around, I will add at this stage no wild fires were started and nobody ever got hurt at least to my knowledge they didn’t. Its amazing the things you find out at an early age that actually help explain things later in life, little did I know that the curves on that magnifying glass were bi-convex and that the light could be controlled passing through it by tilting it or moving it closer or nearer the target object. My sole aim was to concentrate the light so it made the finest point of focus on a bit of paper and get it to burn. When I hear the scientists talking about ray path tracing now (in my professional job) I think back and realise that’s what I was doing all those years ago, primitive of course but my aim was to control the light as it passed through my magnifying glass, holding it further away resulted in a splay of light and made no fire.. holding closer focused the light more on the target and did make fire… result! The technology behind light control these days is way more advanced than I was 😊 but essentially the goal the same. This little story has no relevance to anything useful and will not help anyone other than those of you that also climbed trees and generally got up to no good and in that case you might take a minute to reminisce too. I loved the 80’s...don’t judge me - I was 8 years old and controlling light.. Hands up who's climbed a tree for fun?
