The Challenge? For the past two decades, business and industry leaders have expressed concerns about the lack of trained workforce. They believed public schools were dismissing career readiness by limiting vocational education opportunities, and were placing more emphasis on college ready courses and training. The Solution: In 2003, business and industry leaders in Maricopa County, Ariz., united to create the Western Maricopa Education Center, a partnership between 12 school districts, business and industry partners, and a governing board in Maricopa County. I have a professional update to celebrate (and others to come!). I have been selected the 2024 Educator of the Year by the Minnesota State Board of Trustees. This is the highest honor award for excellence in teaching in the entire Minnesota State system. Only 4 are selected out of dozens of applications. I am grateful to have several mentors and inspiring students in my professional journey who motivated me to pursue better and more innovative ways to delivery my teaching and to connect students to more relatable experiences and real world examples with maintaining high academic rigor. Some of my innovations include mixing a traditional course on Labor Economics with a study abroad component, jigsaw activities to discussed peer-reviewed articles, simulations of immigration process experiences, Pre and Post Debates, self introductions in online courses with sharing gratitude and savoring experiences, and incorporating students to real data to analyze local issues. Further, my activities also include direct discussions on equity, disparities, implicit bias, and examples that demystify the economics profession. #IlookLikeAnEconomist

Even after graduating, there's more to learn and other fields to explore. Offered by Florida Atlantic Executive Education, this course introduced the foundations of knowledge building, life cycle performance, and to create and maximize value #FAUBusiness #BusinessinParadise

In a realm where the tides of complexity and accelerated change are ceaseless, the exigency for a robust educational framework for our Regents and Board members is paramount. The pursuit of knowledge is not a mere transaction, but a voyage that empowers these esteemed individuals to navigate the nuanced governance landscape with a discerning lens. The metamorphosis from a seat of authority to a bastion of insight and foresight is catalyzed by a relentless quest for learning. Our collaborative endeavor in this conference is to not only elucidate the pivotal role of board education but to foster a milieu of perpetual learning and adaptive governance. As we delve into the intricacies of board dynamics, the symbiotic relationship between comprehensive education and adept governance becomes unequivocally clear. LEADING EDGE COLLABORATION: Yesterday St. Ambrose University and Mount Mercy University launched a pathbreaking collaboration that will lead to more pathways of access and afforability for students at both institutions beginning in fall 2024. The two universities are also working to facilitate a seamless transition of qualified students from undergraduate into 18 distinct graduate degree programs that will now be opened up to students at both universities. As well, under this agreement, learners can access expanded certificate programs for workplace upskilling and reskilling and twelve-degree completion programs aimed at adult learners. The goal of the agreement is to expand access to, and the affordability of, quality education for traditional students and adult learners alike. We also see anticipated student benefits that will include reduced time to degree completion (for both undergraduate and graduate degress), early-entry into graduate programs, a strengthened core curriculum, and new opportunities for adult learners to obtain certificates and enhance their skills in the competitive labor market. Moreover, we remain committed to our values-based education grounded in our Catholic tradition with practical application for the workplace and our world. We continue to explore the viability of a strategic combination that would allow for greater administrative and operational efficiences.
