Appreciation Post!!! 🎉 Today, I want to take a moment to express my thanks to the people who have played an instrumental role in shaping my professional career. It's easy to get caught up in the daily grind and forget the people who have given us a chance or offered support during difficult moments in our career journey. Prior to that, I was working in an artist role with no potential for growth. However, you saw my potential and helped me launch my management career. I also miss the crazy days in Boston when we had lines of customers down Faneuil Hall, but we were always able to handle them with a smile on our faces! Nickie Cerda: When we first met, I wanted so badly to rekindle my passion for artistry. I missed being creative every day, and you were the one who believed in me. You helped kickstart my career in beauty retail with NYX Professional Makeup, and I truly appreciated your support. I also loved that you had so much faith in me that you brought me along on our start-up journey with Riley Rose x F21. To even launch a 6K square foot store from ground zero! Learning about the brands was the most fun part of the journey!! Those were some unforgettable days, and I really miss them! Finally...Last but not the very least... Nora Merecicky: Thank you for being there for me during my biggest career transition, when I moved from working in beauty retail malls to becoming an agency recruiter. I went through several rounds of interviews and Nora at Vitamin T gave me a shot. Thank you for your training, guidance, and faith in me! Five years ago, I took the biggest risk of my career. I couldn’t turn down the chance to go from being a reader, client, and then competitor to COVETEUR to being a leader there. It was my dream job—and I’m thankful for the founders who gave me the opportunity to live it. When I ran into Chris Noth (aka Mr. Big) on the subway in 2011, we didn’t start dating, and when I lived this career dream from 2019-2024, I had to navigate many realities too. But, I will never regret taking that risk. Friday was my last day at Coveteur. To the clients that replied to an email, said yes to a sales call, and trusted us with their marketing campaigns, thank you. Coveteur covered the personal styles of celebrities and gave a platform to a myriad of artists—but our clients were my unrelenting source inspiration. The industry is changing. I recently read an article in The Sydney Morning Herald by Tim Duggan that really got me thinking: We all tend to view promotions as the natural next step in our careers. But what if, by being promoted, we’re actually being pulled away from the job we love and excel at? Duggan suggests that instead of automatically promoting people into new roles that may take them away from their strengths, we should consider paying them more to stay in the roles they excel at and enjoy.
