The Cornerstone Events team was honoured to work with Rare Voices Australia on planning and delivering the 2024 National Rare Disease Summit (the Summit), hosted at the wonderful Rydges South Bank Brisbane. 🌟 With the theme 'Progress Beyond Policy', the Summit provided a platform to advance the implementation of the Australian Government’s National Strategic Action Plan for Rare Diseases (the Action Plan). Bringing together people living with a rare disease, government representatives, researchers, clinicians, and industry, the Summit was a powerful step towards achieving the Action Plan’s vision: the best possible health and wellbeing outcomes for Australians living with a rare disease. The two-day event featured engaging plenary sessions, dynamic panel discussions, interactive workshops, and invaluable networking opportunities. Adding to the vibrancy of the event was the ever-charismatic radio host; actor; comedian; and television producer, Julian Morrow, as Master of Ceremonies. A huge thank you to Rare Voices Australia and all the attendees who made this event impactful and inspiring. It was a privilege to contribute to such meaningful progress in the rare disease sector. 🫶 📸 Photo credit: Vethaak Media pty ltd #RareVoicesAustralia #2024RDSummit #RydgesSouthbank #events #eventsinbrisbane #eventmanagement #eventprofs #cornerstoneevents

It's not big news that when governments, scientists, public health specialists, and other important voices share conflicting information - trust drops. But what happens to people's willingness to engage further with health information, which is crucial for informed decision-making, after exposure to conflicting messages? 📍 Key finding from a recent study: After reading conflicting messages on 6 health topics, people were less likely to share or seek more information on those topics. For me, that's concerning and highlights yet again the importance of coordinated messaging in public health (and perhaps beyond). Speaking with one voice is not just about trust - it's about keeping people engaged and informed. Now, I am even more grateful to be part of the two huge collaborative efforts to coordinate public health advice for major events in Europe this summer - UEFA EURO 2024 and The Olympics. At the WHO Regional Office for Europe, we joined hands with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and health authorities in Germany and France to coordinate public health messaging for people attending these events. Coordinating public health messaging between various stakeholders is not always easy; it takes time and much effort. But we need to remember: every inconsistent message could potentially discourage someone from staying informed or sharing crucial health information.

✈️This weekend I am preparing for my trip to Brussels for the Healthy Lungs for Life Campaign: Lung Health Exhibition and Lung Function Testing event at the European Parliament, organised by the ELF and ERS as part of the Healthy Lungs for Life campaign. Travelling as a patient advocate comes with its own set of challenges. For me, I have to think about things like travelling with oxygen and wearing a mask to protect myself from potential infections. But despite these obstacles, these in-person meetings are always worth it. I am excited to reconnect with ELF colleagues and partners in such an impactful setting. This is not just an opportunity to promote lung health; it is a chance to make a real difference through face-to-face interaction that have the power to create lasting change. Many of us living with a lung condition face invisible struggles. It is a reminder for all that accessibility is not just about physical spaces—it is about awareness, empathy and inclusion for all conditions, visible or not. 💬Have you faced any challenges when traveling or attending important events? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. If you want to know more about event, check the link 👉 https://shorturl.at/hsJJA - Dimitris Kontopidis, ELF Chair #PatientAdvocacy #LungHealth
