You leaving a company and taking a new role that better aligns with your life is not job hopping. You having a gap in your resume because you were laid off or life happened doesn't mean you aren't a qualified candidate. As a recruiter, I look at your skill sets & experiences to see if they align with a role. I personally don't ask why you have a gap in your resume or why you have had 6 different jobs in the last 2 years and if I do ask it's only because I want to be able to advocate for you when sharing with the hiring manager. It's not my job to make up your story or assume what your story is. It's your job to share as much or as little of your story with me as you like. I've hit 120 days at Genomenon, Inc, and I'm proud of the remarkable progress our People team has made in less than 3 months. Here are some key milestones we've reached together: 1. Migrated to flexible PTO: Ensuring folks can take time away to recharge. 2. Upgraded benefits providers & finished open enrollment: Enhancing our benefits package. 3. Hired ~20 Team Members: Expanding our talented workforce. 4. Onboarded CKB's dedicated team: Strengthening collaboration and capabilities. 5. Held a US and Bosnian-based Summit: Fostering unity across our global team. 6. Wrote V1 Job Architecture for our largest teams: Establishing clear career and growth paths for people managers and makers alike. How did we achieve this so quickly? What have we learned? ✅ Prioritizing critical work has enabled us to achieve so much in a short time with limited resources. 🙅♀️ Deprioritization is equally important. This focus is key when leading a People function at a company of nearly 200 team members across two countries (especially compared to smaller orgs). 👩🚒 As a wise leader (Daniel Estrada) once told me: you have to let some fires burn because sometimes they extinguish themselves. What I’ve learned this week There’s a lot of companies out there with sky-high expectations for new employees without offering the necessary support or resources. We often hear about the importance of hiring the right talent, but how often do we talk about nurturing that talent once they’re on board? Imagine starting a new job with a mountain of responsibilities but no clear direction. It’s like being given the keys to a Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail, (I had to look that one up for impact) without being able to drive. How can we expect new hires to thrive under these conditions? Onboarding isn’t just about paperwork and introductions. It’s about providing the tools, training, and mentorship needed to succeed. Investing in your employees from day one, you are not just building a workforce; you are building a community of motivated and engaged individuals.
