Today is the report deadline for the Churchill Fellowship!* *If you want to submit it for approval AND be able to attend the dinner... which I do (any excuse to dress up!) This past month has been stressful, I'm not going to sugarcoat it. Deciding on which parts of interviews to use, to pull out key themes and make a coherent argument for accessibility, while also showcasing case studies, practical actionable advice, and highlighting areas for innovation and improvement... I'm confident that my report- Beyond Barriers: Building inclusive work-cultures for disabled employees to drive innovation- will be an interesting read and useful resource for many people. I started with six themes, which was pointed out looked more like individual PhD theses (I don't do things by halves..) which have been cut to four that I am thrilled with- this piece of work has been a labour of love, that I can't wait to share. (Cut with the knowledge that the others will be there for me to write and follow up with in the future...) From the perspective of building accessible and inclusive work cultures for disabled employees, I look at 'reasonable' adjustments, building an inclusive work culture, operating on global vs local levels, and a look at the trending topic- AI. And all the innovation potential that comes along with these topics! If you're signed up for my newsletter (Access &) you will be sent it as soon as it's available, otherwise keep an eye out end of June/ July for the digital copy (fancy printed ones soon to follow...)

I learned something surprising in the process of completing a doctoral degree. In the heart of a society steeped in tradition and patriarchal norms, I found myself navigating a maze of expectations, stifling even the simplest of aspirations beneath the weight of societal judgment. As a female, the higher education path has seemed fraught with obstacles, each a reminder of the limitations imposed upon me by cultures and subcultures reluctant to embrace change. Yet, amidst the naysaying voices attempting to dictate my fate, I discovered a quiet internal rebellion, a refusal to succumb to the confines of conventionality. I began to realize I was defying expectations placed upon me. Sure, society was telling me I was supported: but the system and foundational culture wasn’t designed for me. With each step forward, I had to carve out a space to flourish just a little more and, at times, getting a good heap of pushback from the most surprising individuals. I realized that the secret to learning for many people is defying social expectations and showing up for themselves. With each surmounted obstacle, I pull out the splinters of societal conditioning. So, with every higher education degree you see on this platform; for every graduation ceremony you attend; know that for many students, the path to get there wasn’t just about showing up to class, doing the reading, and submitting the homework on time: it was about battling toward a complete and full paradigm shift. See the person who had to arm themselves with resilience and a steadfast belief in their own potential, press onward in the darkest of moments, and refuse to surrender to the doubt that threatened to derail their journey. See that change.
