Here's a relevant read for our development-minded friends: Published by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, this groundbreaking study concludes that building reuse almost always offers environmental savings over demolition and new construction. Savings from building reuse are between 4 and 46 percent over new construction when comparing buildings with the same energy performance level. The findings presented by the National Trust for Historic Preservation are important in supporting the idea that the reuse of historic assets creates more sustainable and environmentally resilient communities.
