This year is the 70th anniversary of the 1954 Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict. This convention is the first and most comprehensive multilateral treaty dedicated exclusively to the protection of cultural heritage in times of peace as well as during armed conflict. It’s as relevant and urgent as it was 70 years ago. When our culture is under threat, our identity is at risk. To save culture means to save who you are. We need to act together to safeguard our cultural heritage heritage for future generations to come. https://lnkd.in/e6_78uNr #CER #culturalemergency #1954hagueconvention #hagueconvention #culturalheritage

We proudly wave the Stars and Stripes, today and every day. 🇺🇸 In fact, our office walls display several historical American flags. It’s a reminder of how blessed we are to live and work in this great nation, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to serve rural American businesses. … #flagday #starsandstripes #oldglory #america #usa #usda #usdabusinessloans #usdaloanprogram #financialservices #lending #rural #ruralamerica #rurallending

On January 26, 1855, 169 years ago, a significant chapter in Pacific Northwest history unfolded with the signing of the Point No Point Treaty. This pivotal agreement involved the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe and various S'Klallam villages, including the Skokomish community. Negotiated at Point No Point, Washington, the treaty aimed to address the increasing tensions between Native American tribes and the U.S. government during a period of westward expansion. Like the contemporaneous Point Elliott Treaty, this accord sought to delineate territorial boundaries, allocate lands, and recognize the inherent rights of indigenous communities to essential resources. The signing of the Point No Point Treaty stands as a testament to the complexities of intercultural negotiations during a transformative era and represents a crucial moment in the evolving relationship between Native American tribes and the expanding United States. The legacy of this treaty endures, shaping the ongoing discourse on indigenous rights and the intricate history of the tribes involved.

https://lnkd.in/ge5Xwyap I have read thus far only the Executive Summary, but here this is for your perusal. Broadly speaking, the PIF members welcome the Quad, but some are critical of the “free and open Indo-Pacific” narrative that undergirds it. As the Quad seeks to bolster its engagement in the Pacific Islands, it should ensure that it accounts for the unique challenges facing this vast maritime region, which relies heavily on foreign assistance.

Publicly acknowledging the traditional territory that we live or work on is an important step toward reconciliation. A meaningful territorial acknowledgement: ✔Recognizes and pays respect to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people and their traditional and/or current geographical territories. ✔Includes mention of the associated treaty or treaties or note that the territory has been unceded to the geographic location you are speaking from. ✔Build meaningful relationships which are key in working towards truth and reconciliation. Before giving a territorial acknowledgement at work, engage in research and self-reflection to ensure a meaningful and connected thoughtful action. This May is the 70th Anniversary of the UNESCO Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict. Warfare has changed dramatically since WW II, as has the treatment of cultural property/heritage during conflict and crisis. What should the protection of CPP in armed conflict look like in the 21st century? What about CPP, pre-armed conflict? Where do we address grey-zone activity that threatens cultural heritage-- tangible and intangible? Most importantly, how do we become *proactive* in the protection of cultural property and cultural heritage? Why do we focus on monitoring, and documenting the destruction, instead of focusing on the prevention of destruction in the first place? #CPP #Hague54 #culturalheritage #CHX #militarytraining

So, This conundrum of belligerence between peaceful nations, in stark contrast with the core tenets and basic principles of peace and justice, is painstakingly ostensible. We, the peoples of planet earth, shall not wage war against one another. It is excruciatingly evident that history rhymes, and might even repeat, if we do not embrace our humanity. First and foremost, it is about the next generations whom we burden with the scourge of annihilation—hatred that cannot be swiftly overcome. Thus, Presidents of all Nations, please renew the pledges once given pursuant to the United Nations Charter. 💫
