In the midst of South Africa's struggle against apartheid, Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo forged a lifelong partnership based on mutual respect and shared vision. As young lawyers in the 1950s, Mandela and Tambo faced the daunting task of defending black South Africans against the oppressive apartheid regime. Despite the immense challenges, they remained steadfast in their commitment to justice and equality.Mandela, with his unwavering resolve and charismatic leadership, emerged as a towering figure in the anti-apartheid movement. He never forgot the invaluable support and guidance he received from Tambo. As the founder of the African National Congress Youth League, Tambo played a pivotal role in shaping Mandela's political consciousness and activism.Upon Mandela's release and South Africa's transition to democracy, their partnership took on new significance. Mandela, now President of a free South Africa, leaned on Tambo's diplomatic prowess and strategic insight as he navigated the complexities of post-apartheid governance.Their enduring friendship and collaboration serve as a testament to the transformative power of mentorship in African leadership. In the spirit of Mandela and Tambo, I implore African leaders to embrace the lessons of their predecessors and mentors, recognizing that true progress is forged through unity, solidarity, and collective wisdom. #OneAfrica #1Africa#Africanleadership

On this Mandela Day, we celebrate the extraordinary life and legacy of Nelson Mandela, a towering figure in the fight for freedom, equality, and human dignity. South Africa, and indeed the world, owes a profound debt to Madiba, whose unwavering commitment to justice and reconciliation continues to inspire us today. This Mandela Day, 17 more trees will find their roots at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (“GIBS”), with each tree representing one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”) set by the United Nations. This is a testament to the interconnectedness of environmental stewardship, social progress, and economic well-being. In Mandela's spirit, we must dedicate ourselves to combining our efforts to meeting the 2030 targets set our in each of the SDGs. This requires collaborative action – from governments and businesses to civil society and individuals. Let us empower communities, promote sustainable development, and create opportunities for all. Every small act of compassion and dedication contributes to building a brighter future, a future that embodies the values Mandela so passionately championed. #MandelaDay2024 #ItIsInYourHands #ActionAgainstPoverty #SocialJustice #Equality #Empowerment #SouthAfrica #GlobalChange

Over the past few decades, we've witnessed the devastating impact of deforestation, with millions of acres of lush, vibrant ecosystems being cleared for various purposes. This alarming trend not only destroys the natural habitats of countless species but also contributes to climate change, soil erosion, and the disruption of vital water cycles. It's time we take action to protect and restore our precious forests and oceans and finally Earth before it's too late. Thursday is Nelson Mandela International Day, an opportunity to honour Madiba's commitment to freedom, justice and equality. We commemorate his journey from prisoner to President of South Africa, and the triumph of an extraordinary individual against the forces of hate, ignorance and fear. "We hold it as an inviolable principle that racism must be opposed by all the means that humanity has at its disposal,” Mandela said during the Special Committee Against Apartheid in the UN General Assembly Hall in June 1990. He exemplified the power of courage, reconciliation and forgiveness to overcome the injustice of racial discrimination. “Nelson Mandela showed us the extraordinary difference one person can make in building a better world,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres. “Let’s honour Madiba’s legacy and turn our hands towards building a better world for all.” https://lnkd.in/ggZ_AXG

South Africa is on a better path this year onwards and possibly realigning to the initial vision and sense of camaraderie in the video below. Here is an opinion article written by me: https://lnkd.in/e3WZwD6V
A historic moment in time... The official announcement in Parliament, in 1994, of South Africa's first democratically elected President, with my father-in-law in the row behind Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki 🇿🇦 May we soon recover the path to becoming the Rainbow Nation that was envisaged by our Constitution. And may other oppressed people and nations soon experience their own historic moment of liberation #FreePalestine
