Dell Technologies – attractive play on growing AI industry On March 1st 2024 Dell Technologies provided upbeat earnings report. Although total revenue fell by 10.9% yoy to $22.3 bn, the drop was less than expected. It was a positive surprise of +0.7% to the market consensus estimates. In addition, there was a significant increase of almost 40% qoq in AI-optimized server orders. Dell shipped $800 mn of AI-optimized servers and its backlog nearly doubled sequentially, exiting the fiscal year at $2.9 bn. Demand continues to outpace GPU supply, though H100 lead times are improving. Its PowerEdge XE9680 AI-optimized server is very much in demand. In the fiscal fourth quarter, the company shipped $800 million of AI-optimized servers, including XE9680, XE9640, XE8640 and the R750 and R760xa servers. AI-optimized server mix increased to 40% of total server orders revenues in the fiscal fourth quarter, driven by strong demand from AI-focused cloud service providers and growing interest from other customer verticals. Dell noted that customer demand for AI servers nearly doubled sequentially in the fiscal fourth quarter and demand remains well ahead of supply. The pipeline for AI-optimized servers tripled sequentially during the fiscal fourth quarter. The strong demand trend bodes well for Dell’s long-term prospects. Dell expects revenue to return to growth in fiscal 2025 courtesy of broad IT spending recovery, as well as continued strong demand for AI-optimized and traditional servers. AI hardware and services represent a $124 billion opportunity by 2027 for the company. Dell expects servers and networking to be a bigger portion of its ISG mix in fiscal 2025. Dell Technologies – updated valuation Given the latest released financial results, we have updated our valuation on Dell Technologies. We believe that AI will be among the key drivers for Dell Technologies in the coming years. According to our base case scenario with earnings projected to grow at 3% CAGR during 2024-2030, we estimate Dell’s fair value price of $169 per share. This implies attractive 26% upside potential for the stock in the coming year.
