Second Fire Project knows the risks campfires bring to society but through good practices and safety, we can prevent wildfires as campers and citizens.
At Second Fire, we wanted to share our concern and condolences to those affected by the Texas Panhandle Wildfires. At Second Fire we enjoy campfires and the warmth the bring but we also understand the inherent danger they pose. We aim to bring education when it comes to campfires and campfire safety. Here is a great resource from the Boy Scouts of America website on campfire safety to prevent wildfires: https://lnkd.in/gWag2aum #firesafety #campfires #secondfireproject #texaswildfire #wildfires #wildfireprevention

Can’t say enough great things about training in the traditional trades! It’s so critical to not only visit and admire beautiful historic homes, but to know the traditional trades such as masonry, carpentry, etc. so they can be maintained authentically.
Are you a young adult looking to join the historic trades? Looking to start a career with the National Park Service? Applications are open now for HPTC’s Aspiring Preservationist Programs. June 6, 1944 is arguably the world's most important day in modern history. It was the day the allied forces invaded Nazi-occupied Europe. D-Day! On tomorrow's 80th anniversary we will celebrate the bravery of the soldiers, sailors and airmen that help free a continent but how did they do it from a logistics standpoint? #DDay #Logistics #SupplyChain #MindBlown https://lnkd.in/eNzwrVXB

Maxims - 4/9 - 1933- FDR: Civilian Conservation Corps - a nation that destroys its soils destroys itself... I propose the CCC to be used for work, but more important than material gains will be the moral and spiritual value of such work. Carpe Diem! © 4/9/1933 – Civilian Conservation Corps A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people We cannot always build a future for your youth, but we can build our youth for the future I propose to build a Civilian Conservation Corps to be used in simple work…More important, however, than the material gains will be the moral and spiritual value of such work. - Franklin. Things that are worth doing are never easy, and to quote a Marine Corps recruiting poster we don't promise a rose garden. What we do offer is an opportunity for monumental personal growth, for the opportunity to be your best every day, not for yourself but for the mission and team. The opportunity to give back to a cause, "the Nation" and our collective welfare. It is akin to a mind, body, and spirit experience to those that are open to it. Whether a person serves for a single tour or a 40-year career the tangible and intangible benefits are immeasurable. Yet many young people and their families lack the information to have an informed discussion and make an informed decision. Navy and Marine Corps recruiting are in the lead for NROTC recruiting but we can assist. If you, your PTA, company, school, or group of neighbors want to talk to someone about the opportunities we stand ready. Our NROTC program info is below and the attached is a great source of information, please share it widely, Website: https://lnkd.in/gREK89gs USC POC Email: nrotc@usc.edu Office: (213) 740-1839 Website: https://navsci.ucla.edu/ Our UCLA POC Email: nrotc@navsci.ucla.edu Phone: (310) 825-9075

Is there a need for a 4th Protocol Additional to the #GenevaConventions that covers non-human combatants? There's an area of combat operations that the #rulesofwar have struggled to address sufficiently. While the likes of Jerome de Hemptinne among others have dedicated significant intellectual labor in bringing this discourse to the mainstream, there's still a long way to go in creating space for the recognition and protection of animals enlisted in combat and non-combat operations by parties to a conflict. This August marks the 74th anniversary of the GCs, and I think it's a great time to talk about animals in war-as direct participants in conflict operations -not just as part of the natural environment or as civilian objects. What's your take? Watch this video essay a let us know in the comments. https://lnkd.in/gnGBkqwU

Marine Veteran, leadership, motivation and cranes and logistics. Podcast Host, photography and creative. Excellence!
Breaking it down Barney style! That’s what they would call it in the Marine corps… Anyways, breaking your goals down into bite size pieces and understanding the process in front of you is half the battle. It also allows you to know what you need to attain the goals, dreams, lifestyle, and material things you want! The battle in this comes down to discipline! Do you have the discipline to follow the plan once you break it down?

Engineering With Nature and Beneficial Use of dredge spoils is the new thing, but we have been doing this for years.
Ever built an island!? -- We're working alongside LS Marine, Ramsey County, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Paul District, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources doing just that in St. Paul, Minnesota. -- Our project goals are to improve aquatic habitat, create suitable habitat for migratory birds, and enhance the quantity of shoreline habitat. We're excited to achieve these goals and to have utilized dredged material from the Mississippi River in an environmentally beneficial way (by building islands!). Thank you to everyone involved in this project and for making this video possible. We're honored to contribute to preserving and improving Pigs Eye Lake's ecosystem. #IslandBuilding #environmentalstewardship Nick Chyko, Greg Smith, Andrew Timmis, Lindsey Weisert, Mike Binsfeld, Mark Binsfeld, Dustin Bauman, Lindsay Tuquero, Randy Pit ©2023 J.F. I got this book as part of the "Welcome Aboard" gift basket at Marine Corps Recruit Depot -San Diego. It still speaks to me. This is how I strive to be more trustworthy to those I am in relationship with. In his book "Deep and Deliberate Delegation", Dave Stitt PCC lays out the idea of a Trustworthy Tracker. The traits that are scored are Caring, Honest, Reliable, and Competent. The top scores are described this way. Caring: "They seem to have an innate sense for my needs and interests and without prompting work towards and outcome that is win-win for both of us." Honest: "They tell the truth regardless of self-interest; I always get the full picture." Reliable: " They consistently do what they say they'll do; my commitments are safe with them." Competent: "They exhibit mastery by anticipating what needs to be done in any situation and knowing how to do it intuitively." To me, the man Rowan is showing top tier trustworthiness. The author,Hubbard, is encouraging us to do the same. What do you think about this essay?

Another good step in the long slow process of restoring the watershed of the L.A. Basin. Restoration of the historically connected L.A. & Rio Hondo Rivers and Ballona Creek watersheds is critical to aiding the endangered southern steelhead by allowing them to migrate up from the ocean to their spawning grounds in the Santa Monica, San Gabriel and San Bernadino Mountains.
An effort led by the Army Corps of Engineers has fizzled out
