Now bleed in brain parenchyma can be accurately detected with MedSAM and HU filtering techniques In my last post, we talked about a problem with detecting brain bleeds. Sometimes, the software would highlight other soft tissues in the face as bleeds by mistake. To fix this, we need to focus on just the brain tissue (the parenchyma) and then use aand after that HU filter can be applied to segment the bleed out. 

So now how do we segment this ? The most promising choice is to go with MedSAM ie) based on something called the Segment Anything Model (SAM), which has been trained on lots of radiology data This help in segmenting the brain parenchyma on all instance. 

With the help of MedSAM and HU filtering we’ll be able to identify bleed accurately. As we know radiologist are heroes when it comes to identifying the bleed but this approach will save few minutes of their valuable time.

Liver MRI is a vital diagnostic tool, offering detailed insights into various medical conditions. However, the duration and demands of the procedure, especially during breath-hold sequences, can be challenging for patients. Recent advancements, such as iQMR technology, are streamlining this process, offering a balance between speed and image quality. This comparison of two liver MRI scans one standard and the other accelerated and enhanced by iQMR highlights the effectiveness of this approach. While the standard scan provides clear images, the enhanced iQMR scan elevates the image quality, even from a shorter, initially lower-quality scan. The enhanced scan, in particular, brings crucial diagnostic features into sharper focus. A notable example is the visualization of a hyperintense lesion in the L4 vertebral body, at the lower scan margins, which is discernible in both the routine and the processed scans. This consistency is pivotal, demonstrating that crucial diagnostic information, such as lesions or other anomalies, is preserved or might even become more conspicuous, in the shorter, #iQMR enhanced scans. Nothing of diagnostic relevance is omitted or distorted, ensuring that the integrity of the imaging is maintained. iQMR's impact is significant in the realm of MRI diagnostics. By enabling shorter scan times, it alleviates patient discomfort associated with prolonged procedures. More importantly, it ensures that the diagnostic quality of the images is not only maintained but enhanced. The clarity and detail provided by the processed scans are instrumental for radiologists, allowing for a more accurate interpretation of the images. Crucially, the technology guarantees that all pertinent findings present in the routine scans are accurately captured and represented in the accelerated scans, ensuring reliable and efficient diagnostic processes. 📃Scientific paper: Cross-Sectional Imaging in Fecal Incontinence Abstract: Several factors may cause fecal incontinence. Identifying the underlying cause is essential for correct therapeutic management and selection of the most appropriate medical or surgical treatment. 3D endoanal ultrasonography is currently of undisputed importance in allowing a detailed evaluation of the sphincteric plane. Integrating 3D endoanal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging allows a more precise assessment of the condition. Magnetic resonance imaging can deliver essential morphological and functional information about all phases of defecation, the latter by using dynamic sequences. On the other hand, the role played by traditional X-ray defecography appears to be declining. Dr. Devi G Nair, MD, FACC, FHRS emphasises the importance of obtaining vascular access with ultrasound guidance, particularly in patients undergoing LAA The VersaCross system is used for transseptal access. Dr. Nair highlights the efficacy of this system, especially with the RF delivery at the tip, which facilitates a systematic and precise crossing into the left atrium The use of biplane imaging, including bicaval and short-axis views, plays a critical role in navigating the appendage and ensuring accurate positioning of the device The Laminar device is used with a focus on capturing the appendage at its widest ostium, as identified through CT imaging. The careful measurement and sizing, in this case, a 24 mm loop within a 26 mm ostium, are crucial for successful LAA Instead of routinely using a pigtail catheter in the left atrial appendage, Dr. Nair prefers using the VersaCross loop and pigtail wire for the procedure. This method allows for effective LAA angio, which aligns with the pre-procedural 3D imaging, ensuring that the closure device is appropriately sized and positioned

Another case study of iatrogenic air embolism (Laasri K et al: Radiology Case Reports 2024, 19:953-55). This case report was of a 40 year old patient who underwent contrast media injection for enhanced computerized tomography (CT). On examination, a venous air embolism was seen in the main pulmonary artery, just above the pulmonic valve.  The authors stated that it is well known, that during contrast media injection for computed tomography (CECT), small amounts of venous air can be found in as much as 23% of these patients. They suspect that these air bubbles may be found in the contrast media itself, created from the pressure injectors, or just from inadequate air removal from the delivery lines during preparation.
