Wednesfield Technology Primary School welcomed its first students this past September. As part of Shireland Collegiate Academy Trust, the new primary school has been designed and delivered as a Passivhaus Certified building. The design process was informed by the desire for a new, NZC (Net Zero Carbon) building, which provides a high quality, inspirational teaching environment for teachers, pupils, and staff. Lead Architect James Edwards shared “It has been an incredible project to be a part of to develop a new state-of-the-art Passivhaus school providing quality facilities to the children of the area. Through continual collaboration amongst the design and construction teams, we were able to develop a robust range of details exceeding the stringent requirements of Passivhaus resulting in a highly energy efficient school and model for future schemes.” #CorstorphineWright #PassivhausSchool #Passivhaus #SustainableSchool

Urban design is about solving complex spatial challenges by designing at multiple scales—neighborhood, streetscape, and human. At Chapter at Madison, LJC demonstrates how integrated design can transform underutilized urban parcels into vibrant, contextually responsive housing by balancing architectural innovation, neighborhood preservation, and economic feasibility. Our approach proves that thoughtful design can create spaces that not only meet functional requirements but also contribute meaningfully to urban narratives. From an overcrowded challenge to a sustainable, forward-thinking solution, the transformation of Parkway School District’s McKelvey Primary Center (Parkway Schools) makes for an inspiring case study of collaboration for high performance design. Functional multi-purpose spaces were a priority for the District and our detailed evaluation of existing facilities and programmatic requirements helped them apply this vision. Four additional classrooms and three additional special education classrooms were added to the original project, including a future-proof design to accommodate expansion. In our shared mission to improve academic performance, we agreed on measures to improve comfort for end users of the building like students, faculty and staff, alongside conserving energy and reducing life-cycle costs. We also made sure that project met the Advanced Energy Design Guide for K-12 School Buildings whenever possible on the existing building and as a minimum requirement on all new additions. #fgma #pk12 #elementaryschools #ParkwayProud #StLArchitecture #StLSchools #WeBuildCommunity

We’re excited to have begun work to deliver a 420-pupil primary school near Burton upon Trent! Drakelow Primary School – the latest in a long line of educational establishments to be delivered by Clegg Construction - will be sustainably located at the heart of a 2,200-home residential estate currently under construction by client Countryside Partnerships on the former Drakelow power station site. Designed by multi-disciplinary consultants ONE Creative environments (ONE) , the new school’s indoor and outdoor areas will maximise the learning experience, with classrooms flowing onto outdoor teaching spaces to allow for integration of inside and outside teaching. New sports facilities, including a 3G pitch, will be included, as well as a habitat area to provide forest school experiences. The building’s heating capacity will be met by externally mounted air source heat pumps and the school will benefit from underfloor heating fed from a low-temperature hot water system from the central heat pump plant. Michael Moore, operations director at Countryside Partnerships, said: “Having worked together to develop the reserved matters application for Drakelow Primary School, we are pleased to appoint Clegg Construction for the delivery phase of this exciting project. “The new building will be a valuable addition to the Drakelow development, providing a modern, sustainable and attractive environment in which students can learn and thrive.” ℹ️ 🔗 For more information, please see the link in the comments section 📸 Image credit: One Creative environments 📸
