Without a doubt there is a severe shortage of courts – both indoor and outdoor – in most metro areas and a clear commercial opportunity. Will be interesting to see how the operating economics and return on investment potential, as well as the increasing NIMBY factor, all plays out
With the growing popularity of pickleball I'm not surprised to see the intersection of it with commercial real estate -demand for buildings to be retrofitted for courts, ground up experiential hospitality ventures with pickleball courts being developed etc- I'm also not surprised to see ESPN jump aboard with televising the game, but I'm surprised how quickly some former tennis greats got involved and the size of the prize purses. Naysayers question why ESPN would televise this- I'm old enough to remember when ESPN was mocked for airing poker which was a great viewership success. I'm not sure of the viability of pickleball as a spectator sport but I don't see the demand for more courts being built ending soon

Nick Jones, Owner of Cedar Bowling Center, explains how his league bowlers have grown to love the EDGE String machine. "Our leagues are happy bowling on EDGE String. There was resistance to changing at first, and a few bowlers threatened to quit. In the end not a single league bowler has left because we switched to EDGE String. In fact, they love that we just don’t have machine breakdowns anymore. And our leagues are finishing 30 minutes sooner than before - creating more open play time and increasing our overall revenue." While I love playing pickleball (and pretty much any sport), I am not very good at bowling, cornhole, or bocce. For some reason, putting a weight in my dominant arm throws off my "swing" and I am not all that accurate. Because of my love of play and competition, I still participate in these games, even though I am not likely to "win". I say to myself, it's about the play and the socializing - not the victory. Do you still play games you aren't good at? Of course, I think pickleball is that place where you will always find someone to play with and you're guaranteed a good time. #pickleball #teambuilding #competition

Have you heard about floorball ? Floorball is among the most popular sports in schools in Scandinavia and several other regions. A very fast, strong and competitive practice that requires an excellent team spirit. Somehow similar to hockey, but instead of ice or turf, floorball is played on hard surfaces. Players use a carbon-fiber stick and a very light synthetic ball that can exceed 200km/h speed. A floorball game opposes 2 teams of 5 players each, on a 40 x 20m indoor field, and lasts 3x20’. The purpose is to score more goals than the opponents, which requires both offensive and defensive skills and tactics. The International Floorball Federation (IFF) recommends to play on a floor that provides excellent grip and shock absorption for the players, and high rolling/sliding speed for the ball. This is the reason why they have chosen to partner with Gerflor and to play all official competitions on Taraflex floors by Gerflor. Worth watching, or even trying ! #IFF_Floorball #Taraflex #Wherechampionsplay
