Mongolia is enduring its most severe winter in nearly half a century, grappling with the devastating effects of Dzud. Since February this year, the livestock mortality rate has surged, affecting about 75 percent of all herder households. With the current toll of lost livestock exceeding 4.7 million, official forecasts predict the situation to worsen. The Mongolian Red Cross Society is working tirelessly to provide humanitarian assistance to the affected people together with partners in this difficult time. To support the people of Mongolia, the IFRC launched an emergency appeal to reach up to 10,000 Dzud-affected herder families with cash assistance, livelihood protection, health and psychosocial support, vocational training and community engagement. Let’s not forget the crises that don’t make it to the headlines. https://bit.ly/3IGqOB1

In the past years, the Horn of Africa has been severely affected by climate-related shocks, mainly drought and flooding, which created major humanitarian needs and undermined resilience both at household and community level. Consecutive poor-to-failed harvest, the loss of agricultural income among farmers and the continued loss of livestock contribute to deteriorating food security. With the funding support of @French Embassy in Kenya and Somalia, Acted in partnership with @Barwaaqo Voluntary Organization - BVO and @Candlelight For Environment Education and Health is implementing a 12-months project to address food and nutrition insecurity, enhance resilience, and restore degraded landscapes in 18 IDP sites and rural communities in Burco, Caynaba and Laas Canood districts. As part of the project activities, Acted and BVO aim to enhance food security and resilience of rural communities in five rural villages in Togdheer region. The targeted beneficiaries will benefit from a series of different activities – including the distribution of agricultural inputs such as tools, seeds, and tractor, creation of farmer field schools, training on Good Agricultural Practices and pest management, and community workshops on kitchen gardening. #zeropoverty #ZeroExclusion

#Ethiopia is dealing with ongoing humanitarian issues as a result of terrible, consecutive natural disasters and conflict. This year, more than 21 million people—4.5 million of whom are internally displaced—need aid. The drought brought on by El Niño has made things worse, ruining livelihoods and wreaking havoc on communities already dealing with reduced crops, drier pastures, water scarcity, and livestock losses. #gaza #Gazal #gazalifestyle #gazacity #gazanation #gazastrip #gazapizm #Gazabarstars #gazamiseh #GAZANIA #GazaUnderAttack #gazaunderattacks #gazazoo #Gazaway #gazals #GazaInTheDark #ghft #givinghopeforthem #ngo #ngopi #ngon #ngorongoro #ngopiyuk #ngorongorocrater #ngonqua #ngongping

Zambia faces its driest agricultural season in over forty years, impacting over surface water levels, crop and pasture production for more than 6,5 million people across the country. The Eastern province is a region that has been negatively impacted by the drought, with the majority of districts being classified as Phase 3 on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC). Nyimba is one such district. Nyimba’s population is mainly made up of rural villages, who rely on subsistence farming for their livelihoods with maize being the primary crop. Reportedly, there has been crop failures in the district of between 90 to 95% leading to 12,000 people being severely food insecure due to the drought. Ubumi Prisons Initiative is pleased to report that we have received a grant from the Danish Emergency Relief Fund via CISU - Civilsamfund i Udvikling / Civil Society in Development to help alleviate the situation. We look forward to providing food aid for the most vulnerable of the vulnerable in Nyimba district, and we look forward to restoring at least some of the water problems, as well as providing some drought resistent seed packs and tools for people. We only received the grant today, so we are still in the planning phase but we should be able to distribute aid within the coming weeks! It is so important to us to be able to provide Zambia with at least a little support in this very serious crisis. Thanks to Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and CISU - Civilsamfund i Udvikling / Civil Society in Development for this important grant.

The ongoing drought in Suriname is impacting local communities in the interior, causing food insecurity and restricting access to safe drinking water. Government efforts to provide relief have stalled as a result of low water levels for transportation and the presence of criminal activity. Local criminal groups will likely seek to disrupt aid distribution, attempting to steal resources to increase their power and influence over areas of operation. The shortages in food and water will very likely increase cases of dehydration and malnutrition, almost certainly depleting healthcare facilities' capabilities and increasing NGO intervention. #OSINT #Suriname #ElNiño #crime #healthcare #drought #humanitarian #emergencymanagement #Monday https://lnkd.in/gkD22cW6
