Veterans with mobility issues through being wounded, injured, illness or age, deserve to be able to travel with dignity, not be manhandked on and off aircraft like a sack of potatoes, risking injury, or death. They deserve to know their wheelchairs will not be damaged during a flight or during loading and unloading. United Airlines had the opportunity to have its replacement fleet accessible but chose not do. Janet do not wait for legislation that could force your airline to be accessible but show some humanity and humility to not only disabled veterans but all mobility disabled people, first by starting discussions with your aircraft manufacturers to make accessibility a priority. https://chng.it/XLVWt2Ls5y #unitedairlines #health #wellbeing #veterans #MemorialDay #AccessibleTravel #Wheelchairs #Disability #Transportation #aviation #AccessibleTourism #PVA #aircraft #accessibility #military #veteransaffairs

I read an article about Tim Walz by Gabe Whisnant, Deputy Weekend Editor, Newsweek Magazine, in which he stated: “Tim Walz, 60, served in the Army National Guard for 24 years, which makes him the longest-serving military veteran to be a major-party vice presidential nominee.” National Guard Service is part time – typically one weekend per month and one two-week period each year, unless the member is called up to active duty by the President of the United States. Because he served for 24 years in the National Guard, he is considered a veteran, which for reservists and guard members (without an active-duty component) require a minimum of 20 years of service to achieve. The following is a calculation of Tim Walz likely time served, unless he was called up to active duty by the President. (2 weeks = 14 days) + (12 weekends = 24 days) = 38 days/year 38 days/year * 24 years = 912 days 912 days/365 days per year = 2.49 years of service Typical active-duty service lengths can be as short as 2 years if drafted and as long as 6 years if voluntary, not taking into account any extensions of service. In realty, comparing the overall time spent on a part-time service which required 10.5% of his time to those who were active-duty veterans with a 100%-time commitment for a shorter period of time is not an accurate comparison.
