DMDG: Drug Metabolism Discussion Group 50th Open Meeting Heslington Campus East, University of York, September 2-4. It is with great pleasure that we announce that our Roberto Visintainer has been invited as a speaker. Formed in 1971, the DMDG is an informal World-wide association for scientists engaged in research and development within the drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics and related disciplines of the pharmaceutical industry. The membership spans 30 countries across 4 continents comprising pharma/biotech (60%), CRO (20%), academic institutions (8%) and technology companies (4%) with the remainder made up from consultants and regulatory authorities. The 2024 meeting will spend some time looking back at the 50 years of Open Meetings and the contributions made by the DMDG to ADME/DMPK science in 5 decades, and will in addition look forward to the next 50 years of contribution. bit.ly/3XbpmgN #pharmacokinetics #drugmetabolism #DMDG #biotech

Thank you Prof. Aidan Hollis for co-authoring this first publication towards my PhD - more to come in the near future!! :) Title: Pull me – push you? The disparate financing mechanisms of drug research in global health Abstract: "There is an inconsistency in the way pharmaceutical research is financed. While pull mechanisms are predominantly used to incentivize later-stage pharmaceutical research for products with demand in the Global North, so-called neglected diseases are chiefly financed by push funding. This discrepancy has so far been ignored in the academic debate, and any compelling explanation for why we draw the line between push and pull at poor people is lacking. 🌟 CAPKR is at the FDA event this week🌟 Centre for Applied Pharmacokinetic Research (CAPKR) at The University of Manchester is yet again at the forefront of international efforts to modernize drug development with Prof. Amin Rostami-Hodjegan, Director of #CAPKR, leading a pivotal workshop at the FDA on May 2-3rd 2024. 🔬 The Workshop "Considerations and Potential Regulatory Applications for a Model Master File" will illuminate how Model Master Files (MMF) can significantly enhance the efficiency of modeling and simulation (M&S) in drug product development. Prof. Amin Rostami-Hodjegan will spearhead discussions on 📌 The potential benefits and incentives for stakeholders to develop and use an MMF for new drugs and generic locally acting drug products. 📌 Important considerations in the MMF lifecycle. This engagement highlights the strength of the ongoing collaboration of #CAPKR with the #FDA as the only UK higher education entity holding a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Agreement with the FDA. This highlights CAPKR’s unique path for knowledge exchange with the regulators within a formal collaborative framework that leads to real-world “impact” in pharmaceutical regulation and drug development. #FDA #UniversityOfManchester #CAPKR #DrugDevelopment #Pharmacokinetics #RegulatoryScience #CDER

How do you ensure that pharma campaigns are based on evidence rather than assumption? Through methodology, framework and structure. After a series of failed launches, a more involved approach will be required for drugs that treat Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. That’s where behavioural science comes in. You can read about how behavioural science has been used successfully in this article for the International Pharmaceutical Industry Journal by William H: https://lnkd.in/emfAKUSj

Pharmaceutical waste from a Danish hospital New study in Basic & Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology aimed to characterize the quantity and composition of pharmaceutical waste from a major Danish hospital. It found large variations in the amount and composition of waste between departments, but some common patterns were identified. Considerable amounts of paracetamol and antibiotics were identified in the waste from several departments, while propofol alone accounted for about one third of the pharmaceutical waste from operating rooms. This suggests some key areas for improved management and reduction of pharmaceutical waste. Study conducted by Lærke Karner Overgaard, Katrine Bitsch Johansen, Julie Rudbech Krumborg, Michelle Lyndgaard Nielsen, Mette Marie Hougaard Christensen and Sidsel Arnspang Pedersen.
