The King’s Speech on 17 July set out Sir Keir Starmer’s legislative agenda for government and revealed his priorities for the parliamentary session. The speech discussed how ‘securing economic growth will be a fundamental mission’ and how to achieve this the Government will seek a ‘new partnership with both business and working people and help the country move on from the recent cost of living’ https://ow.ly/Z5Pg50SEnAm At IOTICS we understand the Power of Partnerships and working together to enable organisations to address industry challenges. Did we expect to adopt new constitution for Solomon Islands? (Repubic of Solomon Islands). To be lagally, Section 61 of our Solomon Islands independance Order 1978, provides for amendment must altered. In any case to repeal the current Solomon Islands independance Order 1978, there must be addition subsecctions to provide for establishment of Constituent Assembly Committee ,coordination committee and tasked with constitution's sections reviews/amendments. This is to be sure that Constitution (amendment) (constituent Assembly) Bill 2023 (No. 18 of 2023) is procudural.

Kia ora rā! Last week we mobilised in Kirikiriroa to pack the chambers in support of our Maaori Ward Councillors, Cr Moko Tauariki rāua ko Cr Maria Te Aukaha Huata, as well as our tangata Tiriti who endorse the Maaori Ward. I wanted to share the kōrero that I spoke to at this hui: I've followed this haerenga for the Kirikiriroa Maaori Ward since 2021. I want to mihi to whaea Maxine(van Oosten) in particular, a true tangata tiriti who drew the line in the sand at the april 2021 hui making sure council didnt just consider whether or not to establish a Maaori ward in accordance with He Pou Manawa Ora but actually have it on the table. Yourself and Matua Martin(Gallagher) have been pou in this space and i appreciate your initiative in putting forward that motion. I look forward to many more tangata tiriti being outwardly supportive and engaging in Māori Wards and kaupapa Māori. I wanted to kōrero about my time as a candidate for our Māori Ward over the past 3 months and my time advocating for progressive outcomes in local government decisions over the past few years. Having engaged since 2019 with local government, i have seen my fair share of candidate events. I can honestly say that between the general roll events and Māori roll events, there's a huge disparity in who turns out and we have seen that with voter turnout. I barely ever saw rangatahi Māori turn up to candidate events before Māori Wards. Yet, when Te Ahurutanga, a Māori leadership programme at Te Whare Wananga o Waikato hosted us, we saw so many rangatahi interested in us as candidates and what happens in local government. We elect people who mirror our ideals and the introduction of Māori wards have definitely seen more uptake in local government engagement for Māori. Even in a by-election we increased Māori candidates than 2022 which speaks to the need and want for more representation on council and especially in the context of an onslaught and degradation of indigneous rights nationally. Māori wards are so important for us to finally see ourselves in this chamber because we havent for a while. If this goes to a referendum, which i hope it does, I hope you as Councillors and Council staff engage the public effectively to increase awareness of the positive impact Māori wards have had for democracy and the perspective and mātauranga that Māori Councillors bring. Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa.
