FROM THE MAGAZINE: According to columnist Debbie Waite, in her July/August U.S. #Regulatory Update, while most companies that market cosmetics intend to be #conscientious compliant corporate citizens 🧐, doing so is becoming increasingly difficult. 🚨 New York's Game-Changing Move Against PFAS in Cosmetics 🚨 The cosmetic industry faces a formidable new challenge as New York takes a bold stand with project AB 9005. Starting Jan 1, 2027, it's goodbye to PFAS (Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl substances) in personal care products and cosmetics. 🛑💄 Why does this matter? PFAS, known as the industry's "public enemy," have raised significant health and environmental concerns. This legislation, echoing previous propositions like AB 4600 and A4171, signifies a major shift towards safer, more sustainable beauty standards. 🌍✨ But here's the twist: exemptions exist for "unavoidable" PFAS uses, with a critical deadline looming. By Dec 29, 2025, a comprehensive PFAS assessment must hit the FDA's website. 📅🔍 🔍 Stay informed and ahead of the curve as we navigate these changes together. #cosmeticsindustry #regulatoryupdate #newyork #pfasfree

The #PPWR proposal is one the most complex and controversial files of the end of this legislature. It entails many technical aspects with even more ramifications in virtually all economic sectors, making it simply impossible for the legislators to picture all of its possible consequences. At Cosmetics Europe - The Personal Care Association we work constructively to show how the cosmetics industry invests in innovative packaging waste reduction strategies, and provided recommendations to the policymakers on how to avoid hidden regulatory pitfalls which may worsen rather improve the environmental performance of cosmetics packaging.
