It is important to note that media people are well-informed about climate change, including its nature, impacts, and the need of taking action. For a nation that suffers from so many natural catastrophes annually, this is especially true. In addition, we need to zero in on the ways in which print and digital media may act as stewards in the fight against climate change. It is crucial to work together across sectors, including academia, businesses, corporations, donors, watchdogs, iNGOs, NGOs, community leaders, youth, and the media, in order to combat climate change effectively.

During the Pacific Regional Readiness Cohort Workshop at Matavai Resort, the Government of Niue launched the Niue Strategic Framework and Country Programme (SFCP), Niue’s Readiness Needs Assessment as well as Niue’s Standard Operating Procedure. Authored by the Greenwerk Team, Ms Gaylene Tasmania, Niue’s Deputy Secretary to Government, said the documents are a culmination of contributions from different stakeholders, donor and development partners – and voices from the community. “It’s not the size of the country that matters, it’s the population that keeps the country moving forward,” Ms Tasmania said during the launch attended by delegates from eight Pacific countries, and the Maldives. “The standards don’t change for a small island nation but the required effort is amplified ten times over.” Read more: ⬇⬇⬇ https://lnkd.in/g3kewZuj #ResilientPacific #ClimateAction #Niue Office of the Secretary of Government NIUE

A new study that assesses the financial cost of climate change suggests it may be possible, at least in Europe. It predicts that rising sea levels could cause £748 billion (872 billion Euros) of combined economic losses across the UK and EU by 2100. See: Daily Mail quoting: “Distribution of economic damages due to climate-driven sea-level rise across European regions and sectors” See: https://lnkd.in/eyPMdBHQ Time to step up the climate action and start prioritising adaption (or even withdrawal)? #sustainabiltyleadership SDG 13

Grateful for the spotlight that the World Economic Forum, 1t.org and the Global Shapers Community has given to Masungi Georeserve, young people, and those at the frontlines of protecting the last of our green spaces in the last couple of weeks. For me and our rangers who have sacrificed a huge deal of our life and time protecting our forests in remote places for the benefit of everyone, it means so much to see others who are doing the same work and the larger international community coming together in support. A few supporting insights to share: 🌏 Having an intimate relationship with the natural world we belong to is important if we are to live in balance and protect our shared home. This is why it's important to give a seat on the decision-making table for #EarthWisdomKeepers such as environment defenders, indigenous peoples. We are nature's voice - we hear her when she flourishes, when she experiences pain. And in the best of all scenarios, we should all be grounded in this no matter the fields or locations we are in. 🌳 Protection of existing forests and allowing natural regeneration is paramount. There is no use for planting trees if deforestation and lack of enforcement is outpacing restoration. ❗ We need to guard against falling into false solutions. Energy projects destroying life-giving ecosystems and restored spaces set us backwards. So do carbon-offsetting activities that steal away from those who have been doing the work for decades or for centuries. We should not undertake, support, finance, or allow these kinds of developments - especially not in the midst of the climate crisis and the 6th mass extinction. 🤚 As Jane Goodall highlighted, let's vote for people who prioritize the environment and has a clean agenda! 2030 is just around the corner. To not have nature and climate in any public servant's agenda means we will not meet our targets with very real consequences to people. In the age of disinformation and multiple kinds of crises happening at once, it's important to build trust so we can take action at the speed we need to. We need to consciously guard against attempts to divide and delay. And if we are to regain the trust of young people, we need to see that our future is not being compromised - through transparency, representation leadership in innovation, accountability, and the protection of our last green and wild spaces. #GenerationRestoration #WEF24 #SaveMasungi
