Incredibly proud of the work my teams(now headed by Rachel Carnahan), the SSA Group, and I accomplished with the retail program at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. When I took over the program, alongside our Conservation and Science division, we set ambitious targets that better aligned the retail program with the Aquarium’s sustainability goals. Our key initiative was to significantly reduce plastics in the retail stores. Through thoughtful curation, we successfully cut the number of items sold by 60%, primarily by eliminating plastic-based products. Additionally, we made tremendous strides in shifting the fabric composition of the apparel lines. Initially, 80% of the apparel was made with fossil fuel-based fibers. By the time I left, all apparel, except for socks, outerwear, and hoodies, was made with natural fibers. One of the most exciting projects I led was bringing the idea of a Monterey Bay Aquarium-themed Monopoly game to life. Led by Kirk Visola (he/him), the marketing and creative teams designed a Monopoly game that not only was on-brand but was also something the organization could be proud of. We created the only 100% plastic free Monopoly game in the US. Most importantly, by reducing the amount of plastic and number of items sold in exchange for higher quality, more sustainable products, we were able to grow our sales by 32% over the record prior to my management of the program. Proving that you can be sustainable and profitable at the same time. #sustainability #retail #apparel https://lnkd.in/gHteu5hD

Great to see Aurora Sustainable Lands on the Forisk list of top North American timberland owners. Notably, over its history, the Forisk top ten list has remained relatively static, with Aurora being the only newly established company to enter the list in recent years. Even among the long-established owners, there has only been one other that has moved into the top ten list in the past five years, with the other eight listed all being in top 10 list in 2019.

𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻'𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗲𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 At Livingseas Foundation, our mission is to restore and protect the delicate marine ecosystems that sustain life on our planet. This June, we were thrilled to partner with Hey Mermaid Beachware, a company that shares our commitment to making a positive environmental impact. This collaboration exemplifies how businesses can integrate sustainability into their operations and contribute meaningfully to conservation efforts. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 Partnering with Hey Mermaid Beachware wasn't just about aligning with a brand; it was about joining forces with an entity that genuinely believes in our cause. For every swimwear purchased from Hey Mermaid during the month of June, one coral was pledged to be planted. This initiative created a direct link between consumer behavior and environmental action, illustrating the profound impact that everyday choices can have on the planet. 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟭𝟬𝟴 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹𝘀: 𝗔 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 Thanks to the enthusiastic support from Hey Mermaid's customers, we achieved a significant milestone. Last Saturday, our team, alongside volunteers, planted 108 corals. Each coral represents a step towards rebuilding the underwater ecosystems that are vital to marine life and the overall health of our oceans. This achievement underscores the potential of collaborative efforts in driving environmental change. 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: 𝗔 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 Our partnership with Hey Mermaid Beachware highlights a crucial point: there is always a way to make an impact through business. Companies have the power to influence their customers and the broader community by embedding sustainability into their business models. This partnership serves as a model for other businesses to follow, demonstrating that economic success and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand. At Livingseas Foundation, we believe that every action counts, and together, we can create a ripple effect of positive change. We invite other businesses to join us in our mission to protect and restore our oceans. There is always a way to make an impact, and together, we can ensure a sustainable future for our planet. https://lnkd.in/dUfbDSVC Your 10 steps to Marine sustainability. 1. Educate yourself: Stay informed about the issues facing our oceans, such as overfishing, plastic pollution, and coral reef degradation. Understand the impacts these issues have on marine ecosystems and biodiversity. 2. Reduce plastic consumption: Make an effort to reduce the amount of single-use plastics you use in your daily life. Opt for reusable alternatives, such as reusable water bottles, shopping bags, and food containers. Avoid products with unnecessary plastic packaging. 3. Support sustainable seafood: Choose to consume seafood that is caught or farmed using sustainable practices. Look for labels such as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification or the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification when purchasing seafood. 4. Minimize chemical pollutants: Be mindful of the chemicals you use at home, as they can find their way into the oceans through wastewater systems. Reduce the use of toxic cleaning products and opt for environmentally-friendly alternatives. 5. Participate in beach cleanups: Join local beach cleanup initiatives to help remove litter and debris from shorelines. This helps prevent the waste from entering the ocean, where it can harm marine life. 6. Support conservation organizations: Donate or volunteer your time for NGOs and nonprofits dedicated to protecting marine ecosystems. Organizations such as Oceana, Conservation International, and The Ocean Foundation work towards marine sustainability and could use your support. 7. Advocate for change: Use your voice to raise awareness about marine sustainability issues. Write to your local representatives or join advocacy groups that fight for policy changes related to marine conservation. Support initiatives and campaigns that aim to protect and restore our oceans. 8. Practice responsible boating and diving: If you enjoy boating or diving activities, follow responsible practices. Respect marine life and their habitats, be cautious not to damage coral reefs, and never discard trash or fishing-related items overboard. 9. Promote sustainable tourism: When traveling to coastal areas, choose tour operators and accommodations that follow sustainable tourism practices. Support businesses that prioritize environmental conservation and minimize their impact on marine ecosystems. 10. Encourage others to take action: Share your knowledge and passion for marine sustainability with friends, family, and colleagues. Encourage them to adopt sustainable practices and spread the word to further amplify your impact. Arivo.online

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary's new Homestead venue has chosen Nextrend's Siesta Exclusive outdoor furniture. In making this decision, they prioritised durability and environmental responsibility. Their commitment to sustainability guided them to choose high-quality, long-lasting furniture over cheaper alternatives that would contribute to landfill waste in a short period of time. By investing in durable furniture, they are not only ensuring the longevity of the investment but also minimizing the environmental footprint. This approach aligns with their dedication to preserving the natural world and promoting sustainable practices. We believe that this decision will enhance the experience for their visitors while supporting their broader mission of environmental stewardship. #CurrumbinWildlifeSanctuary #Sustainability #EcoFriendly #DurableFurniture #EnvironmentalStewardship #HomesteadVenue #GreenChoices #WildlifeConservation #SustainableLiving #InvestInQuality #GoGreen #EcoConsciou
