We work just as hard to protect our waterways as we do to discover new ways to embrace them. And as part of this commitment, we launched Kick Plastic® in 2015 to reduce the use of single-use plastics in our operations and encourage the communities and events we work with to do the same. 9 years on, we're as committed as ever and want to celebrate our partners, pros and ambassadors who make this a reality. #PlasticFreeJuly #SeeWhatsOutThere

🌍 One Small Thing Initiative 🌍 DAY 15 PLASTIC FREE Reframe The Challenge. Put yourself in challenging situations and something wonderful happens. Yes, it’s uncomfortable. It takes effort. It takes discipline. But in that struggle comes resourcefulness. Creativity. And ultimately, it inspires growth in yourself and the greater good. When I started this, there was negativity surrounding my thoughts. It’s too hard, it’s too much, I can’t do it. And now, I am relishing finding the solutions. My kids are so excited about their plastic free discoveries. Fish and Chips for take out! Their favourite drinks in a can! And ALL THE TREATS at the plastic free shop. To grow we need to know our mission. To put ourselves out there and embrace the difficult. Because with that brings great, great joy. #PlasticFreeChallenge #ZeroWasteJourney #SustainabilityInProgress #SmallChangesBigImpact #GreenLiving #ReducePlasticUse #EcoFriendlyHabits

More important than a pledge, the website offers some good ideas and resources to help reduce the amount of single use plastic from your everyday life. I started my journey years ago, and I personally found it amazing (not in a good way) how integrated plastic is in our lives. Even if you don't choose to make immediate changes in your life, I encourage you to take a mental note every time you purchase something that comes in plastic packaging just to become more cognizant or how prevalent plastic is in your life. One of the most straightforward changes you can make is to try to purchase product alternatives that come in glass, paper, or metal containers next time you're at the grocery store. Vote with your dollars. Even a small change in the right direction is a move in the right direction! 😁

Writer & Editor @MarquetteMagazine, Parttime I Storyteller I Strategist I Advocate of alignment and empathy in the workplace
I normally don't post pleasantries about Earth Day ...I just, usually, don't have much to say about it. I do love miss mother earth, and I'm grateful for her. However, lately, I've been thinking a lot about this Emmy-award-winning episode we wrote briefly about in the upcoming Marquette University Magazine: https://lnkd.in/gVRpaB96 I had no real clue or fully realized concept of how the plastic I am recycling, is truly not being recycled. It's being dumped. 91% of it. And it's getting into the world's waterways, and into people's bodies. Aaaand, it's a really uncomfortable example of racism and inequity with where this plastic waste ends up being stockpiled, too. I recommend watching, and I just know in my heart of hearts that you have 20 minutes in the next few days or week, to spend on it, too. It's slowly but surely making me change, myself. (spoiler alert: we're not doing enough, yikes a bikes, and we all are likely a significant part of the problem, but this also means we can be a significant part of the solution, if we just try, too!). #reduce #reuse #trynottouse #plastic
