Social media is an existential threat to the portals. I don’t know how long it will take, 5 years maybe 10. Because the essence of estate agency is personal service. People will increasingly seek their agents from social media because it gives them a chance to get to know an individual agent at arms length before contacting them to discuss selling. We have passed peak portal, probably when CoStar bought OTM. Rightmove is now an acquisition target. The whole sector is in its late middle age (like I will be soon). Good news or bad?
