This is one of the things that surprises me the most about China. Especially because it is one of the things I have a hard time understanding. During these last years, I have been able to grasp the surface of the millenary Chinese culture. I have seen how the country, in its different phases of construction, has contributed to the world at a philosophical, cultural, and architectural level, as well as the advances and discoveries that have come out of it. And yet, there happens to be a large number of cities in China that seem to imitate other cultural paradigms, many times with less history than its own. I also see this in my own country and, in general, throughout Europe. Do we need to copy those other paradigms in order not to be left out of the “modern”? Or should we focus on revitalizing and refreshing our heritage to look and learn from within and step on our own identity?
