Today, we join in observing Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in African American history marking the end of slavery in the United States. Originating from Texas in 1865, Juneteenth commemorates the joyous news of emancipation reaching African Americans. This day is a celebration of freedom, resilience and culture, featuring prayer, music and family gatherings. It has evolved into a national observance in the U.S. and beyond, highlighting the ongoing pursuit of equality. At COSTI, we recognize Juneteenth as both a celebration and a learning opportunity. It is a time to reflect on the events before and after this historic day and to deepen our understanding of its significance. Racism, unfortunately, can manifest anywhere. Ensuring diversity by including all voices is an ongoing process. Each of us has a role in combating racism and supporting each other as a community. Together, let's strive to foster inclusivity and growth. Alt Text: On a white background, the text reads, "Happy Juneteenth". The graphic features a small family of three individuals of African descent in traditional colourful clothing, looking into the camera. #Juneteenth #AfricanAmericanHistory #SayNoToRacism #COSTI
