Focusing on company culture is crucial for achieving higher levels of success, a belief that echoes the sentiments expressed by the CEO of Beam. Connections. It was such fun to spend a little time with Darius Mirshahzadeh on his podcast, the Greatness Machine. I met Darius a year or so ago when following up on a reference. I had so much fun talking to him and learning his story. Like me, Darius is a proud, high growth CEO who is obsessed with culture and purpose. 🚀 He's also a serial entrepreneur having founded and scaled a "tech-enabled" mortgage business from 30 to over 1000 people, and successfully exiting to go on and start more uber successful endeavors. On his website, he says he's all about the "P's: Passion, Pizza, Puzzles, and especially Pink Unicorns." No wonder I instantly felt like he got me - I am also passionate about puzzles and fancy myself a pink unicorn. There are so many 'Middle of the Road - Average Food - Less than Average Service - Somewhat Clean - "Why ARE WE HERE?" Restaurants'! They have no compelling competitive advantages and provide no reason for a potential customer to go past substitutes / competitors and buy from them. The list is vast - Tgif Fridays, Applebee's Neighborhood Grill + Bar, Chili's, Denny's, and a host of names that have faded into the past. It is rarely a bad experience - it is just not a compelling one. These operations have substantial networks in place. Long past time for the well-paid leadership teams at these operations to do their job and craft a real strategy for attracting profitable business.
