Despite living and breathing in the world of the #GlobeSmartProfile at Aperian, I still find the profile is very valuable for me to reflect and restrategize ways of handling different situations on my day to day work-life. For instance, I recognize my communication style tends to be more direct (SURPRISE 🚨 to many people who think I am more on the indirect side given I am from Hong Kong 😂). I become more thoughtful about the impact I will make on my team members and colleagues when I provide my feedback and perspectives. I rehearse my speech more often in my head now to make sure there will be no miscommunication or "lost in translation". I also seek advice from my trusted advisors to be my "sounding board" to ensure my impact of my communication aligns with my intent. The other thing I also find it interesting is how my career advancement impacts the way I handle ambiguity. I used to be more on the risk side when I was an individual contributor. Since I become the manager, I become more certainty oriented. I notice and aware that my decision does not just affect myself. It may impact my team's engagement and performance. Caught up in the daily grind, we often tend to perceive our colleagues solely on that work level. 👩💻 Sometimes it's difficult to see the whole person behind the professional facade, when we are dealing with zillion tasks and follow-ups. But then, something magical happens. You step out for a run, and suddenly, people open up in a whole new dimension. 🏃🏻♀️ You see your colleagues in a different light, with various other sides that you might have never noticed before. And in that moment, you can't help but think, "Wow, what interesting people I have the opportunity to work with at Staffino!" 🤩 And I truly mean this - it's not that they were uninteresting before, it's just easy to overlook the richness and depth that each person brings to the table in the daily grind. We forget that behind the titles and job descriptions, there are unique stories, passions, and experiences waiting to be discovered. ✨ So, let's challenge ourselves to see beyond the work persona and embrace the richness of who we are. Let's engage in meaningful conversations that go beyond deadlines and projects. Let's take the time to listen, to truly understand what makes each person tick, and to appreciate the diverse perspectives they bring to the team. The next time you interact with a colleague, take a moment to step back and truly see them. Ask about their hobbies, their passions, and their dreams outside of work. Recently, one of our recruitment team members was getting criticized in a meeting. Gaining experience as a Customer Onboarding Specialist at Taizo.in is not without its challenges. However, one particular incident highlights the encouraging atmosphere we cultivate in our team. I was forced to intervene and speak up for them when a discussion at a meeting that they weren't in took place. I recognized that their potential was greater than the short-term setback. After the meeting, I sat down with the rep and shared a simple message: "Others are talking, but it's up to you to show them what you're made of. Let your actions speak volumes. I believe in you, and so does the team." Their response was nothing short of remarkable. By the end of the quarter, they had surpassed expectations, achieving an impressive 130% of their quota. It's a testament to their resilience and the unwavering support of our team here at Taizo.in. This experience brought to mind a valuable lesson from our COO, Vinoth Mani: the best managers are those who stand by their team, especially during challenging times. #teambonding

While this may look like a basic chart, the GlobeSmart Profile is a living, breathing thing that represents a part of my inclusion journey. My work style constantly changes as I work with people worldwide and experience different collaboration methods. My placement in most dimensions is the middle, which does not surprise me as I see the value of each perspective, and I utilize each perspective as I work with others. Part of this could be my people-pleaser tendencies and avoidance of confrontation, but the beauty of the GlobeSmart Profile is that there is no right or wrong perspective. I joined Aperian and discovered the GlobeSmart Profile precisely when I was supposed to. I was in a period of my life where I focused on self-discovery (which never truly ends), and my personal and professional lives intersected. At Aperian, we believe that change can stem from the smallest actions and that "we [can] bridge boundaries through a deeper understanding of ourselves and others." We want to partner with you on this journey as we strive to create a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace (and world).

As global lead for Accenture's focus on cross cultural diversity, I am often talking to our people around the world about how they can better collaborate with team members from other countries and cultures. At Accenture we partner with Aperian to offer all our people the opportunity to explore their cultural profile, and to invite others to compare and contrast differences with a view to strengthening team work. Our cultural profiles can very often change over time, perhaps as we work on a different team, have new responsibilities, or have been influenced by a new culture. What is your cultural profile?
