In the USA, programs like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) provide free public education tailored to children with disabilities, but many expenses, such as private tutors or therapies, may not be covered. Make sure your financial plan includes provisions for these costs. #IDEAAct #SpecialNeedsPlanning #EducationPlanning #SpecialNeedsTrust

I am delighted to share this infographic which has been coproduced with the amazing Brandon Trust Adventurers and supported by the Quartet Community Foundation and University of the West of England. This is truly the most impactful project I have been part of - we have learnt with and from each other, we have all grow personally and professionally. This particular project stream is now finished but our partnership will continue to flourish with thanks to Ilhem Berrou Rachel Roberts Lou Parfitt. The Infographic has no copyright so share widely, use as a conversation starter, as an educational resource, print it out and pop it in places where you think it might make those with learning disabilities and / or autism feel seen, heard and welcomed. What would be lovely is to see those pictures and hear the impact that stays long beyond learning disabilities week. If you need the image sent to you please do get in touch. #coproduction #learningdisabilityweek VODG (Voluntary Organisations Disability Group) NHS England

My latest blog post deals with FAPE. FAPE, or free appropriate public education, is a legal right for students with disabilities to receive a free education that meets their unique needs. It is a cornerstone of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). FAPE must be offered to every student, regardless of their disability. Denying FAPE can lead to increased liability, disability discrimination, compensatory education requirements, and IDEA damages. Educators and parents need to be aware of FAPE and ensure it is not denied. It is important to address any issues promptly and work together as a team to meet the needs of students with disabilities. What is Section 504? 🤔 Like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 protects students with disabilities. This applies to any program that receives funds from the federal government (public schools, public charter schools, and some private schools). Learn more about your child's rights under Section 504 using the link below. ➡ https://lnkd.in/ePVgHiqB #BackToSchool #InclusionMatters #SpecialEducation #DisabilityRights

Our friends at Association for Children with a Disability are running FREE Advocating at School online workshops in late April. Topics include: children’s rights in education, reasonable adjustments - what they are and what you can request, school processes, and student support plans. We are thrilled to share the second edition of CLE’s Model Policy Guide, titled “Model Charter School Policies: Increasing Equitable Access and Quality Opportunities for Students with Disabilities.” This tool provides policymakers, advocates and education leaders with current and necessary information and refined language incorporating the lessons learned since the first version was published. We hope this resource empowers both policymakers and authorizers to revisit their policies and practices to address the evolving needs of students with disabilities in charter schools. https://lnkd.in/exAczvfq #ModelPolicyGuide #StudentswithDisabilities #EmpoweredLeaders #PolicyChange

🚨 Special Education at Risk! Huge voucher programs are diverting funds to private schools that aren't required to accept kids with disabilities, leaving special education students increasingly vulnerable. Add to that a growing backlash against funding, and it’s clear that we must protect the rights of students with disabilities. 🎧 Check out this podcast to learn more!
