Everyone has the right to feel safe in #Kelowna! Taking violent offenders off the streets and holding high level criminals accountable by giving police more officers and tools in the justice system is making progress. Locally, our police chief has reported that in 2023 the Repeat Violent Offending Intervention Initiative (REVOII) has kept 40 individuals accountable resulting in reduced offences by up to 50% in a one year period. As Attorney General, David Eby created this initiative to hold criminals accountable. There is still more work to do, along with more advocacy to the federal justice system. #BCPoli #KelownaCentre #LoyalForKelownaCentre #LoyalKelowna

For the past three years, OYCR has been guiding California’s transition to a healing-focused youth justice system. Our new data report shows progress toward our goals: 🔷 Judges and probation departments are transitioning more youth to less restrictive settings 🔷 More youth are being kept in juvenile court rather than being sent to adult criminal court for prosecution — a developmentally appropriate and public safety best practice Still, racial disparities persist statewide. We're tackling these inequities head-on with data-driven policies and partnerships between community and government agencies. *Horrors of juvenile centre* Recently visited a juvenile centre in the city with a team of Psychologists for counselling minors under trial and children in conflict with law. And after seeing the management and talking with minors, I can see why our criminal system get so much of bad name. All kinds of minors - The one with petty crime and heinous offences, under trial are kept in one living area. Gang inside juvenile centre recruites innocent minor to commit murder once they release from there in the lure of some money. Some are kept there for years under fake charges ( reportedly) and in this time they're learning how to steal from petty offenders or thinking of killing those people who got him in under false case. M(17): Bina kuch kiya aaye hai 2 saal se case close hone ka wait kar rahe hai. is se badhiya to bahar niklte hi murder karunga unka and bas fir 3 sal ki max saja milegi ...tab kabse Kam real case hoga. High density, delayed justice, bad administration, high level of resentment and aggression birthing future heinous offenders..what else is left to spread more lawlessness? #IndianJuvenileCare #JJAct #IndianLegalSystem #Juvenilejustice

This #SpeakUpSunday we want to share a very important message and campaign. We are proud to stand with survivors and advocates Harrison James and Jarad Grice as they lead the charge to change outdated laws that protect child abusers. Their campaign, #YourReferenceAintRelevant is pushing the NSW Government to amend Section 21A (5A) of the Sentencing Procedure Crimes Act 1999, ensuring that good character references can no longer be used to reduce sentences for child sexual offenders. This critical change will remove any chance for perpetrators of child abuse to benefit from ‘good character’ in court. It’s a step toward justice that is long overdue. The campaign is fully endorsed by @fullstopaustralia and is being represented in the NSW Legislative Council by Greens MP @abigailboydmlc. ❓What can you do to help? 1. Sign the ePetition to support this crucial legal reform. 2. Share this post to spread awareness—together we can make sure this petition gains momentum. 3. Follow Harrison James and Jarad Grice on all socials and visit https://lnkd.in/ewJfBudy to sign the petition and for more updates. This change starts in NSW but will pave the way for national reform. Let’s make a difference—because your reference ain’t relevant when it comes to justice for survivors of child abuse. 💪🏾 #SpeakUpSunday #YourReferenceAintRelevant #RafikiMwema #FullStopAustralia #EndChildAbuse #JusticeForSurvivors
