Models and Actors start doing THIS for your headshots 👇🏻 Your headshot is what casting directors and agents see before they meet you, making modeling and acting headshots your primary opportunity for a lasting first impression. Because your headshots are the key to nailing a first impression, I’ve put together a list of do’s and don’ts that are pivotal in preparing and taking headshots that not only catch the eye but also open doors. ALWAYS: ✅ Opt for good, directional light to properly shape and mold the face and add dimension. ✅ Choose a simple, uncluttered background that doesn’t distract from the main subject: YOU! ✅ Wear clothing that aligns with the type of roles you are seeking or reflects your brand. This helps casting directors envision you in potential roles right from the start. ✅ Partner with a professional photographer for your headshots. A professional brings an expert eye for lighting, composition, and detail that can significantly elevate the quality of your headshot.  NEVER: ❌. Rely heavily on harsh lighting. It can create unwanted shadows and emphasize features in a less flattering manner. ❌. Settle for a busy or overly detailed background. Complex backgrounds can pull focus from you. ❌ Wear clothes that clash with the role you’re aiming for or that are too trendy. Outfits that are too specific can pigeonhole you, while overly trendy clothes may date your headshot quickly. ❌ Rely on self-taken photos or non-professional options. New color grading for DOVE (DC version)

Does a painter know photography or graphic design? Do hair stylists practice makeup and wardrobe? Does a singer learn acoustics? What complementary skills help your craft? Location sound recording is a skillset proven to be a huge benefit for post mixing. Post production mixers typically sit in acoustically pleasant rooms, and being on the production side of the fence teaches skills which carry straight through to the final mix. Why are particular microphones used? Why is ‘room tone’ recorded?  (is room tone recorded)? Why do you need a boom microphone AND a lavalier mic? Why should the refrigerator be turned off? Why should you record wild lines immediately after a take? Understanding the “whys” will serve the mixing process well and inform us to make better mix (and edit & sound design) decisions.  Additionally, building a relationship with the location sound crew has benefits while things are being captured. Being on the production crew of any project capturing (one of) the very important pieces of the content puzzle you suddenly realize the answer to all the “why’s.” 

You have to grab people in the first 5 seconds, or lose them forever. This is true for your videos, your LinkedIn posts, your website, your bus stop ad, any kind of marketing you're doing. People are tough and immune to advertising. You have to MAKE them pay attention. In this new commercial for Bella Del Sol, our 'grab' was to start with a bossy woke Gen-Z daughter rattling off her many dietary restrictions to her dad, who's kind of rolling his eyes. It's current, it gestures to the culture wars and to generational divides in families, and it's got some conflict. (The music and camera movement contribute as well.) Most importantly, it's not random. We didn't start this ad with a gorilla fighting a lion just because it would grab your attention. That has nothing to do with sunflower oil. The 'grab' has to make sense for the story. Bella Del Sol is ORGANIC, so it aligns with the daughter's values. There's a funny problem, and a logical solution. Did it work? Did we grab you?
