The Importance of Networking with a Generous Mindset… When we hear the term "networking," what do we imagine? Today, success depends on the quality of our personal relationships. Social capital is the new currency that's essential to our success. As an attendee at a Ladies Who Long Lunch or any networking event you choose to attend, you have something to offer your peers, and they have something to offer in return. You don't need to hold a high-ranking position or own a well-established business to have high social capital. Networking requires a humane approach that doesn't involve exploiting others for our own gain. Building win-win relationships that add value is the key to success. To achieve this, we must come from a place of generosity. Paradoxically, being instrumental in other people's success will bolster our prospects as well. Effective networking involves finding ways to serve others rather than just serving ourselves. By being curious and open to others, we have the opportunity to understand what matters most to them and how we can share our social capital. Generosity is a natural confidence booster, and it will give us an edge over other networkers who are "takers." The people who achieve professional and social success are the ones who are the most generous. The intention behind our acts of generosity is what matters most. I had a powerful realization last weekend. It happened while attending an event by The Talent Deck. TL;DR: Events need matchmakers. Unlike most events that feel transactional, This one had a different vibe altogether. Met Aashish and Sufiyan for the first time. Got some leads and made a lot of friends. Overall fun. But something that stood out to me: You need a matchmaker at events like these. Here's the thing: When you've got 50-80 people in the room, It's easy to get lost in the crowd. Sure, you can mingle and network. But breaking the ice takes time. That's where a matchmaker comes in (Sufiyan is the best one). Someone who knows how connecting you and someone else would be a win-win. PS: Find a way to make it to TTD events. Unless you want FOMO xD
