Freelance consultant and Associate at INLOGOV/DPAP, the Research Centre for Care and the a Centre for Urban Wellbeing
Tidying up V3 of the 'restricted access' interview schedule co-created with tenant researchers. Interesting to see the topic themes emerge and the schedule flow develop. I'm co-working with the research associate next week. They are working on the theory and practice training content on undertaking qualitative interviews for the tenant researchers. The tricky session will be the practice session! One step at a time. It is interesting how access to tenants homes is of strong interest to both tenants and practitioners. Fingers crossed for continuation funding on this topic. The fact that research agendas emerge in action research is a bane in terms of funding, but an asset in terms of excitement for the adventure of finding out.

Our future trajectory is riddled with inquiry of our individual and collective Values and their subsequent behaviors. While discussions are underway economically regarding inflation, we need to consider how we have coded value into our economies. Indy brings up an excellent example of the cost of an apple and a cola; compared to the value or one being part of a regenerative system while the other is degenerative and destructive. We are at an inflection point, or fork in the road, for HOW to proceed. For many of us, we know WHAT we need to do in splinters, but not what that looks like at a systems level. One of the sciences that has been absent in our “delusional” problem solving is the Design Sciences. The design sciences emerged from complexity and systems thinking. The entanglement of our systems of law, economics, academia, governance, and more have been architected into siloes and massive partitioning leaving a huge gap for the tools we need to redesign systems that are resilient and sustainable. I invite you to listen and understand that a new approach is necessary to address our challenges that is dynamic in its evaluation of bio-regional dynamics like weather, culture, legal frameworks, and current conditions/risks. Also mentioned is the Insurance Industry. The Institution responsible for risk evaluation and approval of financial flow. We are currently within a cycle of disaster recovery cost outlays. Flooding and Fires are wreaking havoc on numerous communities globally. The excuse that these events are Natural is one of the delusions discussed, and that we need to rationally accept as part of our shared reality.

Almost all Nobel Prizes have been awarded to quantitative research. And most academic journals favor quantitative over qualitative results 👩🔬 🤔 So when is it useful to opt for qualitative research - for example to conduct interviews? User interviews are a great way to explore a topic - not just for product teams but also for researchers. It allows you to engage with ideas without narrowing down on a single theory you want to disprove / improve. It is not about finding representative data but about inspiration 🛫 How to conduct user interviews is part of next semester's learning catalogue for our students at the HPI Maker Universe. https://lnkd.in/eNBhyHWE
