In December of 2019 I joined the board for Susie’s Place, a child advocacy center that serves children who have experienced sexual or physical abuse. In the past 13 years, Susie’s Place has served over 14,200 children. I am now the board chair for Susie’s Place and in the past 4 years, it’s heartbreaking to see how the numbers continue to rise. This year we are on pace to conduct over 1500 forensic interviews for child victims of sexual and physical abuse. This work is deeply personal to me because growing up, I had similar experiences as many of the children we serve. I know firsthand how important it is for a child to receive the support Susie’s Place provides. Our annual gala (Superhero Celebration) on September 23rd, is a driving force in raising funds to serve these kiddos and their families. As much as I would love to believe 14,200 more children won’t need our services, I know this is not a reality. BUT, together, we can bring help, healing and hope to children in these situations and turn the darkness into light. Below are the links to the sponsorship options. Saturday September 14th will be a special night. A night where nearly 400 people will come together to raise money and awareness for the important work of Susie’s Place. Susie’s Place serves children in 42 counties in Indiana who have been victims of sexual and physical abuse through prevention education, forensic interviews and advocacy to restore hope and healing. I have had the honor of serving as a board member and former board president, for the past 5 years and I can tell you with certainty, supporting this organization and attending this event has changed my life and will change your life too. Friends, partners, community leaders, We need your help! Susie’s Place and the work they do sadly needs to expand, because cases of child abuse continue to increase. Additionally Susie’s Place is at risk of losing a federal grant that would leave a $400,000 budget deficit for 2025, which would impact the ability to conduct forensic interviews and provide advocacy programs such as mental health services and medical care after such traumatic experiences. Imagine if a child you love had to go through something so horrific without someone to help them turn the darkness to hope, to help them heal and recover.
