Understanding how zwitterionic polymers can lead to safer drugs and disease prevention. Researchers conducted a study to elucidate the mechanism of protein aggregation inhibition by sulfobetaine (SPB). In their study, the researchers also tried to understand the specific interactions that occur between hydrophobic components and proteins and their impact on protein aggregation. https://hubs.ly/Q02zRzfw0

NEW IN LYME TESTING: Unlike the traditional two-tier testing for Lyme disease, which is known to lack sensitivity and be inaccurate, a new single-tier Lyme test could potentially deliver accurate results in under 20 minutes. The test utilizes a paper-based platform combined with synthetic peptides that target specific antibodies found in patients' blood. By employing a machine learning-based diagnostic model, the test was able to achieve 95.5% sensitivity and 100% specificity in identifying positive and negative samples from the Bay Area Lyme Foundation Disease Biobank (LDB). While more research is needed, improved diagnostics for Lyme and other tick-borne diseases may be on the horizon. Diagnosis and Treatment Listeriosis Diagnosis Listeriosis is usually diagnosed when a bacterial culture (a type of laboratory test) grows Listeria from a body tissue or fluid, such as blood, spinal fluid, or the placenta. Treatment Invasive illness: People with an invasive illness are treated with antibiotics. Learn more about the treatment of people who have an invasive illness or who have a greater chance of developing one > Intestinal illness: Most people recover from intestinal illness without antibiotic treatment. Antibiotics are needed only for patients who are very ill or at risk of becoming very ill. People who have an intestinal illness should drink extra fluids while they have diarrhea. https://lnkd.in/gatiwuz9

For patients with recurrent urinary tract infections and patients needing long-term catheter use to manage urinary problems, biofilms formed by bacteria can be a problem and are difficult to treat. New compounds that mimic carbohydrates, called glycomimetics, have shown promise in inhibiting these bacteria and the biofilms they form. More research on these compounds is needed before they can be used to treat patients. Check out our new release: Glycomimetics as Candidates for Treatment and Prevention of Catheter-associated Biofilms Formed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. What is Hydrops Fetalis? Hydrops fetalis is a condition which is caused in the Alpha thalassemia major disease. In this condition the all normal hemoglobins were absent and the presence of Bart's hemoglobin. Bart's hemoglobin are produced due to the deletion of all four Alpha genes and consequently the infant have nearly 100% of hemoglobin Bart's which only consist of four Gamma-Globin Chains. In the cellulose acetate hemoglobin electrophoresis with alkaline PH reveals one band migrated towards the anode faster than Hb-A. This band will suggest the Hb-Barts, because this impaired Hgb has very high oxygen affinity and useless for oxygen delivery to the tissue due to no Alpha-Globin Chains.

Telitacicept, a promising BLyS/APRIL dual inhibitor for Sjögrens’ disease treatment: 🔹#Telitacicept is a soluble fusion protein composed of the transmembrane activator, calcium modulator, cyclophilin ligand interactor (TACI), and fragment crystallizable (Fc) domain of human IgG. 🔹Telitacicept binds to and neutralizes the activity of #BAFF and #APRIL, two critical factors in the pathogenesis of #Sjögren’s disease. 🔹Telitacicept resulted in a significant reduction in ESSDAI score in patients with Sjögren’s disease in phase 2 trial, showing also good tolerance and safety. 🔗https://lnkd.in/dmNG3t5M
