Veteran Housing Corp says that IF YOU ARE NOT PART OF A PERMANENT AND LASTING SOLUTION TO THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS AND HOMELESSNESS, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM! THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IS BROKEN AND NOT WORKING FOR AMERICAN TAXPAYERS Veteran Housing Corp would ask every TAXPAYER to demand and get answers from their elected and appointed government officials the below questions as they relate to any affordable, workforce, or supportive housing project in your community! 1. How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, or other government benefits or incentives did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? Is the affordability period permanent and in perpetuity? 3. What guarantees exist have your local, state, and federal government officials obtained in writing that rents will not go up or that tenants will not be displaced or evicted after the "affordability period expires? Every local, state, and federal housing authority and affordable or workforce housing stakeholder should adopt the State of Vermont's "permanent affordability" policy as a model for all future government funded or subsidized housing projects or developments, no exceptions! https://lnkd.in/eFEUC8c8 Additionally, local, state and federal housing agencies should look to the Helsinki, FINLAND MODEL of ending homelessness by providing affordable housing for all 'It’s a miracle': Helsinki's radical solution to homelessness https://lnkd.in/er9HZSQU Even the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development AGREES THAT adopting FINLAND'S MODEL OF ERADICATING HOMELESSNESS may be of great value to resolving the affordable housing and homelessness crises in America https://lnkd.in/gkSZWYRU

Pop quiz: how can you find your dream job / dream client? TLDR: positive vibe checks and no #twinning. I just went to a CreativeMornings at Wacom and was totally inspired by Britt Howard of Portland Garment Factory. She was spitting ideas like a soda, bubbling frothy and fun energy that was as effective as caffeine and sugar 🦄 . She mentioned how she really wanted to work with companies that were outside her echo chamber, as that's where the needle is going to move on issues close to her heart. And I loved that. Why? Because I think it's SO easy to stay with what's easy. What's comfortable. But true growth comes from being uncomfortable. Trying something new. Expanding your self-imposed boundaries. It's one of the reasons I adore working with multiple agencies* (intros below). Because I get exposed to different personalities, ways of working, industries, and skills. At 45, I'm am 100% still learning and it's why I'm not bored despite being a copywriter going on two decades now! Whether you're looking to work for a company or hire one, whether you're a solo or entrepreneur or working for a corporate behemoth, getting along is foundational. Do they pass this pop quiz: 1. passes your vibe check (comfort) 2. pushes your boundaries (discomfort)? But isn't that contrary? 🤔 How can you get both? Quick answer: don't hire a mirror. You don't want to work in or with an echo chamber. Take the job or hire the company based on how you can GROW. 🌿 So we're not twinning 👬 , we're learning. Pick a person or place that who compliments you. Someone who lifts you up. Whose strengths allow you to launch yourself to the next level. They can and should be better at some things than you. Let others shine. 🌟 It only makes you brighter. 🌟 --- These are the three Portland agencies I work with the most frequently: Murmur Creative - focused in the food 🍲 realm, they are the perfect combination of talented and effective, producing comprehensive branding that impacts. SBD Agency - with a lock on home 🏠 and design, they're creative and kind, crafting gorgeous visuals supported by strong content (ahem - that's me!) all the while being super relationship focused. Upswept Creative - self described online marketing 🤓 nerds, these people keep it real with authentic talk, well planned strategies, and consistent concrete output. They ALL pass the vibe check 🌈 . I *really* enjoy working with EACH of these agencies.
Join us next Friday, June 28th for a CreativeMornings talk with PGF founder, Britt Howard. Creative Mornings is an international community that hosts talks with inspiring individuals around the world every Friday morning, with breakfast and coffee provided! 🔍 This week’s gathering spotlight: One of my favorite gatherings of 2023 was leveraging Priya Parker's 15 toasts concept by teaming up with two of my favorite local nonprofits, The Village Institute and Convivir Colorado. Over dinner, each attendee shared a toast in honor of their migrant story. After dinner, MOTUS THEATER's improv troupe ‘played back’ people's stories. The power of storytelling was on full display and I couldn't have been more proud. 💡Lesson learned: The importance of intentional group agreements. When bringing a group together, it's a host's job to ensure psychological safety (especially when they're mostly strangers). At this event, we set agreements of “co-creating a safe and brave space” as well as “stories stay, learnings leave” (ie confidentiality). 💪YOUR TURN: what’s your favorite group agreement? Share in the comments 👇 🔐 Want more gathering goodness delivered straight to your inbox? It’s stress awareness month and as part of that there are things we can all do to aid our own wellbeing. One of the 5 ways to wellbeing is to give. There’s lots of research about the positive effects of taking part in social and community life with some studies showing that people who help others are more likely to rate themselves as happy. Below is a great opportunity with a local charity close to my heart Motiv8 to do just that, whilst improving our community 😊I’m looking forward to taking part! So what ways do you give back? Is there anything you can do today to be kind and helpful to others, however big or small? #wellbeing #stressawarenessmonth
Fancy a different kind of team-bonding that doesn’t involve drinking or an escape room AND helps the environment? 🌊 Led by Motiv8 Youth Advisor Mackenzie Bird, join us and our partners from across the city for a beach clean ahead of the D-Day 80 celebration. When we celebrate July 4th, it's more than just BBQs and fireworks. It's about community. 🇺🇸 Here are 4 creative ways to show love for your community this Independence Day: 🎉 Host a Local Event: Organize a neighborhood potluck or a local talent show. It's a great way for first-time home buyers and VA buyers to meet their neighbors and build connections. 🌟 Support Local Businesses: Visit farmers' markets, local shops, or dine at a family-owned restaurant. Small actions can make a big impact on local businesses. 👥 Volunteer: Spend a few hours at a community center or participate in a clean-up event. It’s a wonderful way to give back and make our neighborhoods better. 🏡 Share Your Home Buying Story: For many, owning a home is the American dream. Sharing your journey can inspire others, especially first-time and VA buyers. This July 4th, let's make our communities stronger and more connected. Happy Independence Day! 🎆 How do you plan to celebrate and give back to your community?

When people ask me why I chose to get into politics, the first question they ask is (usually), "Why?" The implication, stated or unstated, is that politics is dirty and messy, and smart people should stay away (unless there's something wrong with them). When I answer, "Because it matters. Because I think I can make a difference. Because if good people stay out of it, then we cannot complain when bad people dominate it." Then (usually) there is a pause and they ask, "how can I help?" At a local level, politics is about talking with individuals. I have committed to knocking on 12,415 doors by November. To do that I need 500 volunteer shifts. If you're in Louisville and can join us on Sunday afternoon, come to this family-friendly event, 4-7pm. If you can't or aren't local but still want to help, sign up as a volunteer at www.benforlou.com and we'll contact you with the next opportunities. If you can't give time, we'll take money.
