⭐ CEO at Be Free Young Carers, ⭐ Mum of two daughters, ⭐ VSC Board member of Oxfordshire Safeguarding and Children's Board, ⭐ Fundraiser. ⭐ Passionate about Young Carers and supporting Youth Work ⭐ Trustee at Supershoes
New government figures out last week show how being a young carer has a devastating impact on their education and prospects. 'Young carers have a persistent absence rate of 39% - almost twice as high as their peers. On average they miss 23 days of school per year, far more than those without a caring role. This lays bare the glaring inequality in the life opportunities for young carers compared to their classmates.' Be Free Young Carers are looking to level the playing field by supporting Oxfordshires young carers, whether it's by providing that important respite from their role or supporting them with work experience placements, interview techniques and even 121 emotional support and counselling - we are here for them every step of the way. #youngcarers #charity #employability https://lnkd.in/eSDP99Y6

🌟 Empowering Lives Through Golf: Support for Age-Related Illnesses at Local Golf Clubs 🌟 At Golf in Society, we believe in the power of community and the transformative impact of golf on people's lives. Today, we want to share an inspiring story about how local golf clubs are becoming sanctuaries of support and connection for individuals living with age-related illnesses. Meet John, a spirited 70-year-old who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease three years ago. The initial diagnosis was daunting, leaving John and his family searching for ways to maintain his quality of life and sense of purpose. That's when they discovered their local golf club's special program for seniors with age-related conditions. Through the dedicated efforts of volunteers and trained staff, John found more than just a place to play golf. He found a community that understood his challenges and provided tailored support to help him thrive. Weekly golf sessions, designed to accommodate his needs, became the highlight of his week. The physical activity, fresh air, and camaraderie have significantly improved his physical and mental well-being. John's story is not unique. Across the country, local golf clubs are stepping up to offer specialised programs for individuals with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and other age-related illnesses. These programs are about more than just sport; they are about fostering connections, building confidence, and enhancing the quality of life for our seniors. The benefits are profound. Participants experience improved balance, coordination, and mental clarity. Families witness their loved ones rediscover joy and independence. Golf in Society is proud to support these initiatives, and we are committed to expanding them to reach even more individuals in need. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the golf clubs, volunteers, and supporters who make these programs possible. Your dedication is making a real difference in the lives of many. Together, we are creating a brighter, healthier future for our aging population. If you or someone you know could benefit from these programs, or if you're interested in volunteering, please reach out to us. Let's continue to make a positive impact, one swing at a time. #GolfInSociety #AgeRelatedIllness #CommunitySupport #HealthyAging #GolfForGood #ParkinsonsAwareness #AlzheimersSupport #SeniorWellbeing #VolunteerWithUs

It's no secret, I am passionate about ice hockey. Over the past couple months I have been volunteering with the local ice rink organizing a "Girls Try Hockey for Free" event. It was an absolute blast! We had a record-breaking turnout with 61 enthusiastic girls and women ready to hit the ice for the first time, and an amazing crew of 15 volunteers to support them. HUGE thank you to everyone that took part in the guerilla marketing campaign too! But the real win wasn't the saves I made (or the ones that got past me!), it was the smiles on those girls' faces. Let's talk about why volunteering is more than just a good deed: 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: Seeing them experience the thrill of hockey for the first time was pure magic. Knowing we played a part in introducing them to a sport we love is a truly rewarding feeling. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐧𝐤: The camaraderie among the volunteers was fantastic. We all came together with a common goal—sharing our passion for hockey. It reminded me that volunteering isn’t just about giving back; it’s also about connecting with like-minded people and building lasting relationships. 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐥𝐲: Organizing and coordinating an event outside of my usual niche was a learning experience. From logistics to on-ice coaching, every aspect helped me grow personally and professionally. Plus, playing goalie against a bunch of excited first-timers kept me on my toes and reminded me why I call myself the #WorldsOkayestGoalie! 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐔𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐮𝐧: There's something undeniably special about being on the ice, surrounded by the energy of new players discovering a love for the game. It was infectious, and impossible not to have a blast. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠? If you've ever considered volunteering, but haven't taken the plunge, I urge you to do it! It's a fantastic way to give back to your community, meet like-minded people, and develop valuable skills. Whether it's sports, animal shelters, or a cause close to your heart, the joy and personal growth you get from volunteering are unmatched. #Volunteering #HockeyLife #GivingBack #WorldsOkayestGoalie #CommunicationsCoach

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month. Why do brain injuries get a whole month of recognition? Because traumatic brain injury contributes to more death and disability than other traumatic injuries (globally) & is viewed as a preventable injury. One such indication that prevention is possible is the decrease in emergency department visits for children with bicycle injuries between 2009-2018 (in the US). Continue to protect fellow Wisconsinites who enjoy biking as a form of recreation, transportation and leisure by donating here: https://bit.ly/3TcjRh8

Bring back kids for a quid! As a professional sports club aiming to boost fan attendance sustainably, there is a psychological shift induced by charging even a nominal fee, such as $1, or £1 for those reading in England :) Having seen many free ticket campaigns offered by sports clubs only have a minimal short-term impact on attendance, this small fee can significantly alter the dynamics of the social contract and commitment between the club and its supporters. What are your most successful ways of improving long-term attendance at your game? https://lnkd.in/ga54Ff_7

Founder at TurnBerry Acai | Over 25,000 Bowls Sold since December Launch | Director of Corporate Development at CarCover | Over 200+ Partnerships & Headlined 2 RV SuperShows since B2B Launch in July 2023
Creating Community Impact, One Bowl at a Time 🏌️♂️ Yesterday, TurnBerry Acai had the privilege of being part of something bigger than ourselves. We joined forces with the Canada Shriners Hospital for their 13th Annual Invitational at Summerlea Golf & Country Club. The goal? To raise $1 million for life-changing medical imaging technology that keeps children safe. When we launched TurnBerry Acai 7 months ago, we didn’t just set out to make the best acai bowls in the city — we set out to make a difference. Our mission quickly evolved into "creating an everlasting community impact that transcends acai. One bowl at a time. One city at a time." 🌍 From university campuses to charity events like this one, being there for our community isn’t just a priority—it’s who we are. And no matter how fast we grow, this will never change. Should've prepped the 150 bowls in advance, but I've always been a crash course type of student haha! Could've been a disaster if dad was not here to carry the boat (insert David Goggins)! PS: I was a bit starstruck when I got to meet Montreal Canadiens' legend Chris Nilan haha! Can't forget my Junior A teammate and Hockey Saint-Laurent legend Jaden Lang 🏒 #CommunityImpact #TurnBerryAcai #CanadaShriners #AcaiForACause #GrowthMindset

I am taking part in the 2024 Sporting Wheelies CEO Wheelie Challenge! This news also coincides with Sporting Wheelies COO, and long time client of SDA Services’ Dane Cross’ incredible victory yesterday where his SDA home was enrolled AND he was also approved for Appendix H! This has been a 5 year journey for Dane, with the assistance of Greg Barry and SDA Services, so we are celebrating that HARD!!! So, what does this challenge mean for me? 👉 It will give me the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of people living with disability, by improving access and inclusion and raising vital funds. 👉 I will spend the day using a wheelchair at the office and at home to gain a better understanding of the day-to-day challenges of people living with disability may face. 👉 I will experience first-hand how simple things may be incredibly difficult for someone with a disability, such as navigating into the office, getting to your desk or accessing facilities like bathrooms. (I will make sure I pop the vodka on the bottom shelf that day!!) I will need to raise a minimum of $5000 to be “officially” included in the challenge. But if I don’t get there, I am still 100% committed to taking part and will hire a wheelchair if needed. If you want to learn more (or have $5 spare to donate), please click on this link: https://lnkd.in/gpjyACCH
