Councils on Aging serve as essential navigational hubs for older adults, addressing their complex needs in today’s information-rich world. With the rapid pace of digital transformation, older adults often experience informational overload, finding it challenging to access the right resources for healthcare, housing, social services, and more. These councils play a crucial role in bridging this gap, offering tailored guidance and fostering connections within the community that promote both independence and well-being. By facilitating access to trusted information and supportive networks, Councils on Aging help ensure that older adults remain informed, connected, and empowered in a constantly evolving landscape. #AgingInPlace #CommunitySupport #ElderCare #NavigationalSupport #AgingWellhttps://lnkd.in/e7MHMUGd

I am pleased to share our latest paper on risk and protective factors for older Australians, highlighting considerations for older adults living in rural and regional areas. Thwarted belongingness (when one's need to belong is unmet) is more strongly related to depressive symptoms among older adults living in rural/regional areas than in urban areas. Self-warmth acts as a protective factor by weakening the relationship between thwarted belongingness and depressive symptoms only for older adults who live in urban areas. Self-coldness acts as an additional risk factor by strengthening the relationship between thwarted belongingness and depressive symptoms among older adults, irrespective of where they live.
