The Trevor Project recently released their 2024 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People, in time for and observance of #mentalhealthawarenessmonth. This year, over 18,000 voices shed light on the struggles and resilience of LGBTQ+ young people. Let’s be the allies they deserve. ◾ 39% of LGBTQ+ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year - including 46% of transgender and nonbinary young people. LGBTQ+ youth of color reported higher rates than their White peers. ◾ 50% of LGBTQ+ young people who wanted mental health care in the past year were not able to get it. ◾ 90% of LGBTQ+ young people said their well-being was negatively impacted due to recent politics. Interested in LGBTQ+ health and health disparities? Need emerging data? The Trevor Project 2023 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ Young People is a fantastic resource. Noteworthy in their report, 41% of LGBTQ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year—and young people who are transgender, nonbinary, and/or people of color reported higher rates than their peers. The report does a fantastic job of exploring the experiences of youth as well as the impact of anti-lgbtq policies and supportive actions and interventions. https://lnkd.in/d6tqqybE

Among many other matters, we have assisted in name change clinics, advocated for persecuted individuals seeking asylum and represented national organizations seeking to overturn bans on gender affirming care. Does #PrideMonth help raise enough awareness about LBGTQ+ issues? 69% of the readers of our publisher Yahoo said ‘No’ and we also agree that waving the rainbow flag just for one month a year is definitely not enough. Is it important to dedicate an entire month to the achievements and challenges of the LGBTQ+ community? Yes. Is it equally important to address these things the rest of the year? Also yes. LGBTQ+ issues go beyond Pride Month. Because as we see in the results of the surveys, the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ+ people are still not a given and in many people’s opinion are once again under threat. It is therefore important to show awareness and support beyond Pride Month. Because in reality, every month is Pride Month.

This is crucial for all birth providers.
