🛑 WATCH WHERE YOU STOP 🛑 It is an offence for a taxi driver to stop or stand a taxi for hire unless they’re in a designated taxi zone. 🚕 Taxi drivers are only allowed to stop in an area that is not a taxi zone for the following reasons: - if they are not available for hire - if they are loading or unloading luggage or goods - if they are picking up and dropping off passengers. 🚗 Rideshare and other hire vehicle drivers must not use taxi zones. Service providers should remind drivers of their safety obligations. Any driver found stopped or standing for hire in the wrong area risk being fined. See our website for more information on driver obligations: https://lnkd.in/dTXfH3Jw #PointToPointTransport #SafetyForAll

Project unites 15M drivers, boosts tax collection by 140%, increases driver income by 140%, saves 40% for passengers, reduces road traffic, and supports inclusive passengers.
“Many think that only poor people become cabbies, and it’s the last resort when one meets financial difficulties,” says Mr Leung, who thinks that the government should tighten requirements and provide more training for taxi drivers to improve the profession’s image. But big changes are afoot for the city’s taxi industry. A demerit-point system will take effect in September, and misbehaviour could lead to a license suspension after a court conviction. A taxi fleet system will be introduced and authorities have issued five new licenses. It will allow flexible pricing, but in return, these fleets, which include 3,500 taxis, have to provide online booking, personal rating systems and digital payment. For now, drivers and passengers say they are waiting to see if these reforms can take hold. “If we provide good service, the industry will grow and there will be more passengers,” says Mr Leung. https://lnkd.in/dGCmb6Qz

HOW CAN THIS BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN? ‘’National Standards’’ promised by the Government in 2019 have yet to appear, and the Government has stated that this will not happen this side of the next general election. HOW CAN THIS BE? Taxi, Chauffeur and Airport Transfer companies can still seek the licensing authority with the lowest standards and licence fees. THIS IS NOW BECOMING A RACE TO THE BOTTOM! When they don’t meet the standards at one local authority, they just apply to another authority with lower standards. DIFFERENT STANDARDS PUT PUBLIC SAFETY AT RISK! It is absurd that a person who is considered not to be safe and suitable (Fit and proper in the words of the legislation) in one area can be found to be so in another, and granted a licence. Before you book a ride for yourself, your friends and family, or your employees travelling on company business, make sure you check the company adheres to the highest standards. Sydney’s taxi industry is a major contributor to our wonderful city’s public transport system. The taxi industry provides taxi services for transporting passengers from one location to another. It encompasses companies and individual operators that own and operate taxis to serve the transportation needs of the public. Could this be the parking sign that will make it easier for Sydneysiders and visitors to hail a taxi in our CBD? Ask any taxi driver and they will tell you how difficult it is to hail a cab in our wonderful city. Cabbies risk a fine of up to $272 if they pick up or set down in a ‘no stopping’ zone. The taxi industry through NSW Taxi Council, supported by Business Sydney, has called for a one minute exemption for taxis in these zones where it is safe to do so in representations to Transport Minister Jo Haylen. On the weekend the Minister has acted ordering a review into taxi rank operations in the city following concerns raised by industry bodies about inaccessible drop-off and pick-up zones in busy city locations, causing potential safety and economic impacts. Transport for NSW has been tasked with leading this work, coordinating with the City of Sydney, which is responsible for many of these taxi zones, the Point to Point Transport Commissioner Anthony Wing and industry stakeholders, to ensure the best outcomes for drivers and passengers. The taxi industry is also supporting the Minister in other steps to weed out a minority of drivers who affect the reputation of the vast majority of cabbies doing a great job in being part of the overall public transport system. It’s good to see the Minister has listened and acted. Well done to Minister Jo Haylen and the NSW Government for acting so promptly. #sydney #taxiindustry #transport #accessibility #welovesydney

Do you know the emergency number to dial in Europe? ☎ With Brits set to take millions of car trips across the Channel this summer,* new RAC research has found six-in-10 (62%) don’t know the right number to call to get help in an emergency.** Just 38% of those surveyed by RAC Europe knew they should call 112 in the event of an emergency in the European Union. Among the others, a third (32%) worryingly have absolutely no idea which number to call if they found themselves in need of urgent help on the continent, while one-in-10 (12%) say they would dial 999 – the UK’s three-digit emergency services’ number. A similar proportion (11%) think the correct number to dial for help is 111 – the NHS non-emergency line. Four per cent mistakenly believe the number to call is 101, which is the non-emergency line for UK police forces, and three per cent think they should dial 911, the emergency number in the United States and Canada. The RAC’s research also found that many drivers are breaking EU rules by displaying the incorrect country letters on their vehicles while abroad. The figures show more than four-in-10 (42%) do not plan to display ‘UK’ on their car when taking it out of the country this year. In September 2021, it became a legal requirement for motorists to ensure their vehicle contains a ‘UK’ identifier that is clearly visible when driving a UK-registered car abroad... IDEA: The Universal Taxi 🚖 Ticket 🎫 Machines in all UK 🇬🇧 Towns & City’s: This works by all Taxi 🚖 firms in a Town like Burnley for example agreeing on a universal price per 5 miles eg £7 - 0 to 5miles and then going upto £12.50 - 5 to 10 miles and so on. Once all taxi 🚖 firms have agreed on the universal ticket 🎫 price for that Town or City and cities maybe dearer per mile then the Universal Taxi Ticket 🎫 Machine can be fitted. People then buy a ticket 🎫 for eg 10 to 15 miles and it stays valid 24/7 for 6 months to use with all taxi 🚖 forms onboard with the paper ticket 🎫 machines so store it in your wallet or purse. Before presenting your ticket check the milage of your destination does not exceed the ticket milage your taxi can take you and the taxi will also check your destination does not exceed the maximum milage on the universal taxi ticket 🎫. Taxis keep hold of the tickets 🎫 and cash them in electronically with there local council. Also it’s good to keep hold of one because you never know when you wil need like on a night out and at the end of the night you need to get back home and it’s there in your wallet or purse all paid for with no need to use a debit card or cash machine.

New York piloted a ‘free fare’ program on five bus routes for one year. The program resulted in significant increase in pax ridership amongst low income households. Many passengers are complaining that the $2.90 per bus ride is too expensive. But that’s not the main reason of this post. I’m more interested in drawing attention to the impact the free fare program on safety and security of bus drivers. Interestingly, assaults on bus drivers dropped by almost 40% when fares were made free on the five NY bus routes. And it’s not just NY, because similar impact was recorded in Kansas City, were bus fares were also free. This data validates the notion that majority of assaults on bus drivers in the US are from fare collection. Although we don’t have a ‘free fare’ policy in Charlotte Area Transit System , we have also experienced significant reduction in bus driver assaults following implementation of our revised fare policy in July. Following an American Public Transportation Association Peer Review on Bus Safety earlier this year, bus drivers in Charlotte no longer have the responsibility of ‘stating fares’ to passengers. This means that, unless passengers explicitly ask the driver about the bus fare, our drivers have been advised not to engage in such conversation for their own safety. And this has brought tremendous relief to drivers, following years of altercation with passengers. This policy is also enshrined in our drivers standard operating procedure. We believe that by having such policies in place, we can continue to provide a safe working environment for our bus drivers. #Publictransport #Charlotte #NorthCarolina WeDriveU
