March marks #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth, highlighting a crucial aspect of healthcare: the pivotal role of diagnostic imaging in the battle against colorectal cancer. Imaging technologies such as CT, PET, and MRI are indispensable tools in the diagnosis and staging of this disease. These modalities not only enhance our understanding of the disease's extent but also significantly influence treatment decisions, ultimately leading to better patient care outcomes. At Covera, we're acutely aware of the transformative impact that superior diagnostic imaging can have on a patient's journey toward recovery. By ensuring accurate and early diagnosis, we set patients on the most effective treatment path from the outset. Colorectal cancer stands as the third most prevalent cancer among both men and women in the United States, excluding skin cancers. As we observe this awareness month, it's vital to remember that early detection with screening colonoscopy and an accurate diagnosis is key to improving the health outcomes of individuals facing colorectal cancer. #CancerAwareness #ColorectalCancer #Radiology

May is #BrainCancerAwarenessMonth. Did you know that there are more than 100 distinct types of primary brain tumors? A #primarybraintumor is a tumor that begins in the brain. Tumors occur when abnormal cells in a particular area of the body grow out of control. Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute Medical Oncologist & Hematologist Dr. Brandon Konkel is a hospitalist for our patients in greater Sarasota County. In this video, he shares insight into the treatment of one of the most common #braincancer types in adults, glioblastoma, which accounts for roughly 50 percent of all primary brain tumors, according to the National Brain Tumor Society. He shares that while glioblastoma tends to be an aggressive disease, there are many exciting, newer, more innovative treatments available to help treat this cancer type, including tumor-treating fields (TTFields). This noninvasive treatment deploys low-intensity electrical fields to target brain tumor cells through a wearable device and can be used in combination with chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Dr. Konkel stresses the importance of educating others and spreading awareness about brain cancer, as it helps those who have been affected by the disease form a community and build support for the cause. #braincancerawareness

#BreastCancer represents 30% of all new female cancers annually. Approximately 1 in 8 women will face invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. In the US, it's estimated that 310,720 new cases will be diagnosed this year, resulting in about 42,250 deaths. The evolution of #LifeSciences and #CancerResearch over the past millennia is awe-inspiring and makes me proud to work with such an innovative life sciences company, such as #USDM. Advancing research, data analysis, and therapies remains crucial. Despite breast cancer continuing to be the most common worldwide, current five-year survival rates stand at 91%, a testament to scientists' unwavering dedication. I look forward to seeing continued progress in #cancer control through emerging technologies such as #AI, #CRISPR, and cryo-EM.

May is Brain Tumor Awareness Month, also often referred to as #GrayMay. According to the National Brain Tumor Society, "there are more than 100 distinct types of primary brain tumors, each with its own spectrum of presentations, treatments, and outcomes". But brain tumors also represent over 15% of childhood cancers, making them the second most common cancer in children (American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO)). So, in recognition of #BrainTumorAwarenessMonth, I want to shed light on how technology is helping to fight #ChildhoodCancer brain tumors. Medical imaging advancements have enhanced therapy response assessment and disease monitoring - yet, significant challenges in childhood cancer research still exist. At Mint Medical, we are committed to addressing these challenges. Our #mintLesion™ platform provides specialized radiology templates and standardized data reporting to support pediatric cancer research. It caters to various childhood cancers, including High-Grade Glioma, Ependymoma, and Sarcomas. Our structured reports deliver comprehensive insights for physicians and patients, aiding in better treatment decisions.

Gastric cancer is the sixth most common #cancer in Hong Kong. As symptoms of early gastric cancer are subtle, about 80% of gastric cancer patients in Hong Kong have progressed to the moderate and advanced stages by the time they are detected, making surgical treatment, chemotherapy and rehabilitation tremendously difficult. CUHK Medicine recently became the foothold of the world’s first centre to test a novel AI-powered upper gastrointestinal endoscopy system for the detection of gastric cancers. Given the success of AI-assisted colonoscopy, the team believes that the new technology will enhance the accuracy of detecting early gastric cancers and train endoscopists. The pooled prevalence of breast cancer recurrence in this review was significantly high (27.44 %). Histological grade III, positive lymph node statuses, clinical staging III, and involved deep surgical margin were associated factors. Therefore, frequent monitoring, regular screenings, imaging tests, and consultations with oncologists, take extra care to ensure clear and deep surgical margins using advanced imaging techniques are highly recommended. https://lnkd.in/drXN45Cj

🔬 Understanding Tumor Deposits (TDs) in Cancer: Tumor deposits, first identified in colorectal cancer (CRC), are now recognized in various cancers like gastric cancer (GC). These are clusters of tumor cells in nearby tissues, not directly connected to the primary tumor. 📊 TNM Staging Update: The 8th edition of TNM staging defines TDs with stricter criteria, aiding in more accurate staging and treatment planning for patients. 🔍 Controversy and Origins: Studies suggest TDs may originate from lymph node metastasis (LNM) or direct seeding from the primary tumor, yet their precise structure and formation remain debated. 👩⚕️ Clinical Importance: TDs are linked to poorer patient outcomes and increased risk of metastasis, underscoring the need for early detection and aggressive treatment strategies. 🔍 Challenges in Diagnosis: Current detection of TDs relies on postoperative pathology, hindering early evaluation. New imaging tech and AI offer promising avenues for preoperative identification. 📈 Impact on Staging: In CRC, TDs influence TNM staging, highlighting the need for tailored treatment plans. In GC, their incorporation into staging remains under study. 📝 Path Forward: Despite progress, more research is needed to fully understand TDs' role in cancer staging and treatment.
