Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom, Inclusion and Reflection Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, marks the end of slavery in the United States.  On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the abolition of slavery, implementing the Emancipation Proclamation. On this day in 1865, Major General Gordon Granger enforced the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas, freeing the last enslaved people in the Confederacy. Complete abolition followed with the ratification of the 13th Amendment on December 6, 1865. This day is a time to reflect on the progress and accomplishments of the Black community.
